Love Thy Neighbor (1)
AIRED:
Kyle convinces Overton to double date with his old girlfriend and her cousin, Summer. Overton and Summer hit it off at dinner, but he feels as though he is cheating on Synclaire. Kyle reminds him that Synclaire has never shown any romantic interest in him, and encourages him to ask Summer out. When the girls run into Overton and Summer, Synclaire becomes very sad. After she makes many catty remarks about Summer and her hat, her friends suggest that she is jealous, and encourage her to make a move. Synclaire refuses to interfere, and instead hurts Overton's feelings by sending a tape deck he was to repair to Dr. Fix-It. The girls urge her to share her feelings with Overton. After he sends Summer away, Synclaire asks him to come downstairs. She initially tries to say something profound, but finally gives up and plants a kiss on him. Meanwhile, the upstairs neighbors annoy Khadijah and Regine by having sex constantly. The girls are impressed to learn that an elderly couple is responsible. When the couple moves away, a very handsome man rents the apartment, and soon has Khadijah, Regine and Max drawing battle lines.moreless

  • Overton and Synclaire finally kiss!

    10
This is one of the best episodes I think that they ever did in this series. It's obviously noticeable that Overton has a thing for Synclaire, and she's absolutely oblivious to it. I enjoyed the dialogue and the word play, and the fact that it's Synclaire that makes the move on Overton. Well-done!

    • Synclaire: I'm gonna go call the psychic hotline. They'll know what to do.
Regine: Tell LaToya I said, 'What's up?'

    • Synclaire: I just feel bad for Overton that he's dating such a phony-baloney. Like those curls are natural! And did you see that hat? Who is she, Mary Poppins? Come on, now.
Regine: Ooh. Somebody had a little Meow Mix this morning.

    • Regine: How many times can two people...do it in one night?
Synclaire: Is this one of those 'If two trains leave two stations at the same time, what time will they meet?' kind of questions?

    • Kyle: If I don't see Dionne tonight, I might not get another chance before she leaves.
Max: Yeah. And then Kyle won't have another date until Barnum and Bailey come into town.

    • Summer: Overton, what's the hardest part about being a handyman?
Overton: Being handy, I guess. I was born into the man part.

    • Khadijah: Kyle, what's up with Overton and that girl Summer?
Kyle: Well, I'll tell you this. My boy Overton is finally happy. He finally found a woman that... (Synclaire comes downstairs) And that's how the male seahorse fertilizes the eggs

    • (After the old couple that they've been hearing having sex said they had to go to Tai-Chi lessons)
      Khadijah: What are you doing?
Regine: Looking up tai-chi. I wanna know what it is and where I can get some.

    • Synclaire: Overton! I thought I heard you come in. Are you alone?
Overton: Well, if you count you, no.

    • Esther: Oh Mort. Always something smart to say. You can't stop him.
      Max: So I hear.

    • Max: Synclaire, don't listen to Miss Robin Givens over here. You go for Overton. You two were made for each other.

    • (Telephone rings)
Synclaire: Hello? Well, I hope you're happy! Because of you, I've lost the only man I've ever really cared about! (Hangs up)
      Regine: Was that Summer?
Synclaire: No, Dr. Fix-It. He says my tape deck is ready.

    • Synclaire: I know you're very busy, so I took it to the Dr. Fix-It down the street.
Overton: An outside contractor? The handyman is always the last to know.

    • Max: Synclaire, you are jealous.
Khadijah: It's pretty obvious you really like Overton.
Synclaire: Is that why I've been plunged into this swirling eddy of despair and degradation?

    • Kyle: See, but the problem is that your plan takes ten years. My plan pays off at roughly...10:45.
Overton: Yeah, and seven minutes later, your plan will be over.

    • Overton: Why was everybody so afraid of Darth Vader? Oh sure, he was big, but the man had asthma!

    • Overton: I love movies. Especially science fiction. I find the combination of fantasy and hardware simply irresistible.

    • Overton: Kyle, I'm operating here. First, I fix the tape deck. Then I give it a little trial run with some Marvin Gaye, which can only lead to one thing.
Kyle: You and Synclaire playing another hot and heavy game of Monopoly.
Overton: There's a lot of subtext in that game.

    • Khadijah: Who needs heat? The way they're going at it, I'm surprised they haven't burst into flames.

    • Synclaire: I'll get by without him. There's lots of ways to handle being manless. I can do nothing but pamper myself and shop constantly. Or I could develop a cold, hard shell and lash out at my friends with my icy wit. Or I could just get so involved with my work I just eliminate my social life altogether.
