The Engagement (1)
AIRED:
While buying a hot dog in the park, Synclaire meets Robert De Niro, who offers her the part of a waitress in his new movie. Overton tries to plan the perfect evening in the hopes of proposing to Synclaire, but virtually everything goes wrong. Synclaire cannot make their dinner because she has been called to the set. She eventually shows up, but they have to flee when the houseboat restaurant has plumbing problems. Their hansom cab breaks down in Central Park, and Overton gets mugged. Despite Synclaire's pleas, he unhitches the horse and mounts it in the hopes of chasing the man down and getting the ring back. An alternative rock group slaps Khadijah with a multi-million dollar lawsuit after Russell writes a review accusing it of ripping off Barry Manilow's "Mandy." When Regine tries to console Russell, he kisses her, and she takes a very long time to shove him away. Regine's women's group persuades Max to run for alderwoman. Regine appoints herself Max's campaign manager, but objects to her straightforward campaign and questionable slogans ("Ride the Maverick!"). Max's campaign appears to be doomed when a local news broadcast publicizes scandalous information about her personal life. Tag: Kyle consoles Max as the allegations pour down. Music: "Everybody Has a Nipple" by the Belching Yamsmoreless

      • (Kyle and Max are watching the news)
Newscaster: Canidate Maxine Shaw is a new-comer to politics but apparentally not to scandals. The incumbent Paul Malaba claims Shaw had an illict affair with a 17 year old boy from New Jersery. (Kyle laughs)
Max (shocked): He told me was nineteen.
Newscaster: Malaba also claims that last year Shaw was charge with indicent exposure. (Kyle laughs, Max's jaw drops out of shock)
Max: Oh, god damn- I was swimming at a nude beach when a big wave washed me ashore of a retirment village.
Kyle (trying to calm her down): Max, Max, Max. Relax. This whole thing will blow over by tomorrow.
Newscaster: After this will have more news on Maxine Shaw, the so called nympho candiate and her steamy ties to Kyle Barker, a rising Wall Street funds manager. (Kyle's smile instantly disappears)

      • Max: Hey Regine, I'm on my way to the bathroom. What color pants should I wear?

      • Max: I've already had my first press conference, this afternoon.
Regine: Oh my God. Max, what did you wear?
        Max: This.
Regine: God. The blouse says you're in favor of acid rain, the skirt says more guns in school, and the shoes say you're blind!

      • Max: Regine, Regine, what about my press conference?
        (Regine sticks out left hand)
Regine: Democracy in action. (Sticks out right hand.) Dirt. (Moves hands as if balancing a scale. Swings arms as if they were wings on an airplane and spins toward right side.) Neeroom! (Pretends to fly as she goes into kitchen.)

      • Synclaire: 'Can I get you something?' 'Can I get ya somethin'?' (Puerto Rican accent) 'Yo, could I get you something, honey?'
Regine: Honey, if you really want to rehearse being a waitress, you could serve my guests.
Synclaire: Usually when you use me like this, I go along because I'm nice. But today, it might help my acting career. So I'm using you!

      • (Regine answers door.)
Russell: Greetings, chesty spitfire. Hey Synclaire. (to Max) Hello, angry woman who never seems to leave.

      • Synclaire: Oh Overton, this is so romantic. And the view, you know, past the horse, is really beautiful.

      • Khadijah: Russell, how did the deposition go?
Russell: Not well. When I offered them a cash gift, they became outraged. Me thought this was America.

      • Kyle: You two kids have a lovely evening, okay? And the next bottle is on me. (Snaps fingers at waiter.) Domestic.

      • Kyle: You know, you two kids--you look wonderful!
(Puts arms around them and gets choked up.)
Overton: He just got done watching that new Boyz II Men video. He's a little on the emotional side.

      • Regine: Hey. How did Russell's deposition go?
Khadijah: He's still down there trying to convince them he can't speak English.

      • Regine: You look beautiful. You and Obie celebrating again over at Ikea's cafeteria?
