EDIT
The Ex-File
AIRED:
Overton is mortified when he sees Melody, the woman who once shattered him by rejecting his marriage proposal, at the hardware store. He sneaks out, but she later gets his number from his friend Pug and gives him a call. Although Synclaire feels that it is a terrible idea, Overton agrees to meet Melody at Cheezy Burger. After Kyle inadvertently tells her about the proposal, a furious Synclaire tries to retaliate by driving to Bayonne to meet up with a man who sends her a Christmas card each year. She learns that he is an insurance agent, not an ex-flame. Melody tells Overton that she has come to appreciate him, and that she is now willing to spend her life with a "simple" man. She tries to kiss him, but Overton (who was once powerless to resist her advances) now feels nothing for her because of his love for Synclaire. Regine is annoyed to find that Khadijah and Synclaire have re-decorated the apartment and forced her into the worst bedroom, but is cheered when she discovers that her new room has free premium cable. Tag: Regine offers Khadijah and Synclaire a pay-per-view deal.moreless

      • Max: Synclaire, if you're not mad enough to kick some butt, maybe you should let him have this one fling.
Khadijah: Now what would you do if Kyle did that?
Max: Oh yeah, I'm with Kyle now. Oh dang. I gotta remember that.

      • (Kyle enters. Max skips across room and hugs him)
        Max: Hello Kyle! My man!
Kyle: Oh, that's right. I'm with you now. Damn, I've got to remember that.
        (Kisses her on the cheek)

      • Melody: Well, can we at least be friends?
Overton: I believe it was Lord Byron who said, 'The best way will be to avoid each other without appearing to do so.' Letter of April 25, 1814. Goodbye, girlie.

      • Synclaire: What does she look like?
Overton: Oh, I don't know. About 5'2". Medium build. Regular hair. Little small ankles.
Synclaire: Forget it! You think I'm gonna give you permission to see some thin-ankled babe with ta-ta's to Tuesday? No!

      • Overton: He was actually trying to put a square peg in a round hole. You think it's just a saying, but this fool... (Kyle sees Melody and pulls Overton to the ground) Kyle, if you don't want me to tell the story, just say so.

      • Kyle: So Pug, this is where you are when you are not watching Hee Haw.
Pug: Well, if it isn't Kyle, the man who thinks spackle is a fruit drink.

      • Khadijah: Regine, come on now. You fam. Now some tacky drapes and a booty-ass rug can't change that.

      • Overton: Can I bring you anything back?
Synclaire (sadly): Just go. (Overton leaves) Fries!

      • Synclaire: Oh, that's me. Good ol' understanding Synclaire. I'll just sit here...while a piece of my soul festers and dies.

      • Khadijah: Synclaire, it's basic male psychology. When a man sees an ex-girlfriend, he can't believe she's still breathing--and forming complete sentences. How does she do it? He must know.

      • Regine: How'd it go in Bayonne?
Synclaire: Okay, I guess. I'm covered up to three months in a sanitarium.

      • Regine: Man, I can't wait for all this to go down. Obie seeing the woman who rejected him. Synclaire rekindling an old flame. This is truly a homecoming.

      • Overton: But you didn't see your face when you turned me down on the Diamondvision screen. And then there was the referee with the smart attitude, signaling 'incomplete pass.'

      • Synclaire: There's a man I met in Bayonne five years ago who still sends me a Christmas card every year. Well, my secret Santa is about to get a little something extra in his Christmas stocking. (Loosens string on blouse) Ping! Here I go.

      • Synclaire: I can't believe Overton is with that thin-ankled heifer right now.
        (Max rises and removes earrings)
Max: I say we roll down to the Cheezy Burger and kick her ass!

      • Synclaire: Of course I trust you, Overton. I just don't know what to do. My heart is telling me 'no,' but my head is telling me 'hell no.'

      • Kyle: I must defend myself against that pit bull in heels, yes. I'm going upstairs to clear my mind of incriminating thoughts.

      • Pug: I'll acquire the target.
        Kyle: 'Acquire the target'?
Pug: Yeah, Army Reserve. One weekend a month. I be all I can be.

      • Regine: Oh, you two! Oh, you know how I hate being made a fuss over! Okay, now get one from this angle here.

      • Overton: Hey, sugar beet.
Synclaire: Oh my God! It's another woman...Who is she, Overton? Who is she?
Overton: Just an old girlfriend from high school.
Synclaire: Melody? The woman who broke your heart and drove you from fair Cleveland?
Overton: Damn. You're on today, ain't you, girl?

    • NOTES (2)

      • Gregory-Alan Williams appeared in the 1998 mini-series "Mama Flora's Family," which also starred Queen Latifah and Erika Alexander.

      • Synclaire quotes the chorus of Billy Paul's 1972 hit "Me and Mrs. Jones" as she rants about Melody. ("What, she wants to be Mrs. Jones? They've got a thing going on?")
