EDIT
The Shake-Up
AIRED:
Regine begins the process of moving out of the apartment. Khadijah and Synclaire interview a prospective new roommate, an obnoxious woman who smokes and has creditors on her tail. In spite of this, Khadijah is willing to give her a try--until she insults Regine. Unable to cope with the tension, Synclaire begins to display as many traits of a nicotine addict as are possible without actually smoking or chewing tobacco. She pleads with Khadijah to apologize to Regine and ask her to stay. Just as Regine is about to depart, Khadijah breaks down and apologizes. Regine refuses to reconsider, as she believes that it is time for her to move on. Khadijah slams the door in her face. Meanwhile, Max is actually purchasing groceries when the store is held up. Kyle stumbles through the door and subdues the man. Max is certain that he has saved her life. She runs across the store and flings herself on him, and later offers to cook him dinner as an expression of her gratitude. Kyle confesses to Overton that he is no hero; he simply stumbled into the man in his haste to buy some Kaopectate. He breaks the dinner date, as he doesn't want to take advantage of Max. She orders him to attend. After Kyle confesses the truth about the robbery, Max admits that there may be other reasons behind her dinner invitation. They confess to a strong mutual attraction. Max fears that they are moving too fast, and isn't sure that anything is going to happen, but she and Kyle end up sharing a passionate kiss. Tag: Synclaire tries to score some smokes at the newsstand.moreless

  • This is the episode where Max is in the grocery store that's being held up and Kyle happens to run in there to get some Kaopectate. He accidently trips on the would be robber and Max is very happy that Kyle was there to save her life. He's her HERO.moreless

This episode was one of the best episodes that showed how much Max and Kyle really did like each other. I thought that it was clever how they put Kyle and Max in an intense situation and they both did a great job with it. It was hilarious how Max and Kyle finally began to realize that there was indeed something there while trying to figure out how they really felt for each other. It was well written and at the same time funny. Their comebacks were great, as always. They know how to work each others nerves.moreless

    • Khadijah: Max, you're holding onto Kyle. You two been drinking again?

    • Synclaire: Look at her. She's just waiting for you to ask her to stay.
Khadijah: Now how can you tell?
Synclaire: Because I'm looking with my heart.
Khadijah: Well, take your heart to Lens Crafters, 'cause I ain't seeing it!

    • Kyle: Come on, now, Max. You're making way too much of this.
Max (Gasps): I could have died. That could have been it. Maxine Shaw--case closed.

    • Max: When I saw that gun swing in my face, it came to me in a flash. You never know how much time you have left on this earth. Kyle! What can I get for you? What can I buy for you? What can I do for you?
      Overton: Well, all right, then!

    • Max: Is this really gonna happen?
(Kyle looks her in the eye and takes her hand.)
      Kyle: It's been happening.
(Pulls her to him and kisses her.)

    • Kyle: You know, Max, you could get addicted.
Max: Please. You may never leave.

    • Max: When you called and cancelled, I was upset. Like I'd been stood up by a real date.
Kyle: Well, uh, this kind of feels like a real date.
Max: Yeah. Truth be told, I've been developing a sort of sick curiosity about you.
Kyle: Well, uh, I must admit to a certain perverse fascination with your inner workings.

    • Max: All right, Kyle! I don't know who you think you are, but I did not spend all day cooking, cleaning and hanging pictures for the first time so that you could cancel on me at the last minute.
      Kyle: But, see...
Max: But nothing! I've had enough of this humility crap. You saved my life, and there is such a thing as being gracious.
      Kyle: Max...
Max: Max my ass! I've got a roast that's ready, a salad that's going to wilt, and candles I plan to light. So you are coming to my house, I'm gonna stuff food down your throat and you will feel thanked! Is that clear?
Overton: Max, you seem to have a lot of energy. Could you help us with this box?

    • Regine: So, where you from? What do you do?
Zina: I'm from the Bronx, and I work.
      (After Regine leaves)
Zina: Ooh. Now I understand why y'all are getting rid of her. At-ti-tude. Did she say "smooches?"

    • Max: Well, at least let me make you dinner.
      Khadijah: You're going to cook?
Max: Yes? Yes, yes, yes! I'm gonna cook!

    • Synclaire: Oh, Khadijah, look. Look. All the good kitchen stuff belonged to Regine. She even took the lemon zester. Now we'll never know what it does.

    • Synclaire: When Buddy was a puppy, he ran away. I was so upset that I took a cigarette out of my mother's purse. Turns out Buddy was just at the groomer's, but it was too late. I was already a slave to the demon nicotine.
Overton: Um, honey...snugglepuss, that was a long time ago.
Synclaire: But Regine's moving out now! It's separation anxiety. I'm getting Buddy flashbacks!

    • Max: I'm just making sure she's not taking anything that's mine. I've left a lot of things here over the years.
      Khadijah: Crumbs, maybe.

    • Kyle (After Max yells at him): Yeah right. Like I'm scared of her. Like she's gonna tell me what to do. Tch. Please…I'm going.
