I heard ages ago hilary got mad at Disney and quit Lizzie McGuire because they weren't paying her enough, but know I've read Dick Cook from Disney Studios offered Duff a two-picture deal, including $3.5 million for a sequel plus a $500,000 bonus if The Lizzie McGuire Movie grossed $50 million. Hilary's mom Susan, said they wanted $5 million. She also wanted a producer credit for herself, and wanted Disney to pay her cell phone bills. Susan had a script for A Cinderella Story, which she shopped the project to every studio but Disney, and Cook was furious when he found out. He withdrew the two-picture offer, but negotiations for a sequel proceeded. Within three weeks, the gross for The Lizzie McGuire Movie at the box office had exceeded $40 million, and it seemed sure to pass the $50 million mark. Susan demanded Hilary's $500,000 bonus. Cook refused, she'd get the bonus when gross passed the target, and not before. But he reiterated the $4 million offer. Susan said she wanted $4.5.

Cook refused to budge, and gave her a deadline of May 8. The day came and went, and there was no word from Susan or Hilary's lawyer of manager. The next morning Susan called. "Okay, we'll take the deal." "You missed the deadline," Cook replied. That same day, Disney announced plans for a sequel had ended. "Disney thought they'd be able to bully us into accepting whatever offer they wanted to make, and they couldn't," Susan told Entertainment Weekly. "We walked away from a sequel. They walked away from a franchise." Roy Disney thought that Susan Duff had a point. There were also plans for a Lizzie McGuire series on Disney's ABC network, which would chart Lizzie's course through high school. This is how her mom Susan became enemies with Disney. Although, Hilary still has a contract with Disney's Hollywood Records which releases her albums.

Do you think Hilary's mom made the right decision? Strangley, I think she's sort of did. If Hilary was still playing Lizzie McGuire right now, nobody would think of her as anybody else. Also, she's now made a big name for herself in Music and movies. What do you think?

Hilary's mom is a person who learned the show business fast, and decided to be a mom to Hilary first, and her manager and buisness manager, etc.  She does what she thinks is best for Hilary and Haylie.  I don't think this would be a bad thing (and could even be a good thing), except I think it's going a bit too far if others don't matter...

I would of loved to see more episodes of the origianl series. Except if they made a highschool series...and Alex Borestien was in it I'd def. watch. But I would maybe like to just see some more movies. w/ Miranda/Lalaine!

Hilary is too old now but it would've been nice to have a nice hour finale to wrap up everything instead of leaving us with a crappy crappy ending. I mean sure the kiss was great..but then the story ended. No closure. No nothing.

Never thought that I would see the day when Hoofum said nice things about Susan or Hilary! The end must be near! *LOL*

A lot of different factors here.

    Fans:

    Pro: More "Lizzie".

Con: Odds are that there would be no Miranda.

    Hilary:

    Pro: A stable job.

    Con: Possible typecasting.

    Disney:

Pro: More money from the "Lizzie" gravy train.

Con: More money spent to make an ongoing series.

    Things to think about.

I'm not crazy about a sequel myself. This whole thing seemed a bit selfish (on both sides). I might be wrong, but it seems like it was all about money. I'm not in show business, though, so I could be wrong. I think a sequel should be avoided. The show and movie were good. Leave it alone.

You noticed that I added the part at the end about how that's not a good thing if others don't matter, right?

It's called show business for a reason. It's a business.

It's hard to argue that the Duffs made a bad business decision when Hil has spent nearly every waking moment, since leaving Lizzie, raking in the dough on new projects. She reportedly has her own luxury yacht now.

Disney is notoriously cheap. I saw a special that went behind the scenes of the Disney produced show, "Home Improvement". Everyone but Tim Allen had to fight for decent pay. When the child actors would ask for more money, Disney would hold fake auditions for replacement kids, just to scare the young actors into thinking they were expendable.

One more Disney note. Susan Estelle Jansen was the Disney producer for LM (Stan Rogow was an independent producer) and was instrumental in the Duff negotiations. In a recent interview I heard her say that when she saw the pilot episode, Pool Party, she thought it was terrible. I thought that episode was brilliant, it's still my favorite, and anyone with her reaction probably never had her head in the game when it came to LM.

I think all the earlier epiosdes (Pool Party, Picture Day, Rumors, Misadventures in Babysitting, etc) had something that the later epiosdes are missing.  I'm thinking along the theme of better writting, but since the show had the same writters from beginning to end, that can't be it.  I wish that Terri Minski wrote more episodes.  I liked them.

Ignorant people like this make me laugh... If you knew anything zxc11435 you'd know they would sure as anything surpassed that limit to rake in the so-called 'bread'.

Quitting is quitting, and cap locks are annoying. Life goes on.

I think you're half right, Cafe4moi (that's how the French would say your name). Disney certainly would have extended LM beyond the 65 episodes, for the right price. Hilary fulfilled her original contract and chose not to sign a new one for more episodes. I suppose one could argue whether or not that counts as quitting. But it's not like she walked out on her original contract, which would fit my definition of quitting.

Kinda going to change the topic alittle but are any of you guys still fans of That's So Raven? I sure as heck ain't it should have died after 65 episodes they have so dumbed down Raven to just trip over everything. Just think of what DC would have done with Lizzie.

To the person that wanted Terri to writer more episode I totally agree she created it and she should and ended it too, but nope. Also you have to remember she was on the Sex and the City writing staff so she was probably busy doing that too at the time.

Although I don't watch That's so Raven or any of those other DC shows, I do understand where you're coming from. They could have 'dumbed' down LM, but if they came about it in the right way I think they could have kept the show alive and realistic.

I believe Terri seems to be a very pleasant person, and a good writer as well. So maybe having her foot in the whole Lizzie production would have made it even better to boot.

Wow this is interesting, I never learned any of this stuff from the news. Where did you guys learn about Hillary's mom having a conflict with the Disney executive. I think Hillary is doing well with her record deal with Disney, she's doing well even though the show ended years ago.
