Lizzie McGuire

Season 1 Episode 16

Aired Unknown Jun 29, 2001 on Disney Channel

  • Trivia

    • Parker is a vegetarian.

    • Nitpick: Lizzie donates her bed to charity and her parents don't notice?

    • Nitpick: During the Science Olympics, in the slow bicycle race, both Tudgeman and Gordo should know that at those slow speeds, aerodynamics play a very minor role. Balance and center of gravity play a much more important part when riding slowly.

    • Lizzie complains to her mum that there is a limited water source. However, that isn't true to the fact that water recycles itself. (I won't go to far into detail.)

    • Plastic six-pack rings aren't what dolphins get tangled up in, like Lizzie alleges!

    • Lizzie is supposedly wearing a dress made of burlap, but Miranda doesn't ask about it until the second time she sees Lizzie wearing it.

  • Quotes

    • Teacher: Surely, you must be joking.
Matt: I'm not joking, and don't call me Shirley.

    • Jo: What are you doing?
Lizzie: Mom, water is a valuable resource and the earth doesn't have an infinite amount.
Matt: Geekzilla's right mom. Can't waist water. I'm gonna have to write you up.
Jo: Fine, no clean vegetables, no dinner.
Matt: Delaying dinner, I believe that's another offense.
Sam: Hey Matt, why don't you let your mother and sister work this out, help me take out the garbage.

    • Lizzie: It's leather. Leather is cow. Cow is meat. I - I don't eat meat.
Miranda: Fine. So don't eat my jacket.
Lizzie: Tell me that I'm overreacting when the garbage builds up so high that it blocks out all the sunlight and we freeze.

    • Toon Lizzie: Well! If my parents' generation wasn't so interested in bell bottoms and roller disco, the planet would be in a lot better shape.

    • Sam McGuire: You can't get anything done if you can't take care of yourself first.

    • Jo: Matt, get out of your sandwich!

    • Miranda: ...the rain forest isn't going to hang out with me and rent movies on Friday nights!

    • Lizzie: 99% of all paper products are recyclable and yet only 15% of people recycle!
      Gordo: That makes no sense.
      Lizzie: Exactly!

    • Larry (to Gordo): Or have you forgotten last year? Last year when your egg cracked egg.

    • Matt: You're a troublemaker, Lizzie; I'll be watching you. I've seen your kind!
Lizzie: Of course you have, Officer Wacko!!

  • Notes

    • This episode can be found in the Lizzie McGuire Cine-Manga Volume 13 and the paperback novelization All Over it!.

    • The light blue leather jacket Miranda wears that upsets Lizzie so is the same jacket Lizzie wears in "Between a Rock and a Bra Place" and "I Do, I Don't."

    • Other music includes the song "Portrait of Authority" by the Los Angeles hardcore punk/alternative rock band Bad Religion. It's heard when Matt is giving out tickets for hall violations at school.

    • Filming dates: January 8-12, 2001. The clapboard on the blooper reel at the end of the show is dated January 10, 2001.

    • During the "Showdown" scenes between Gordo and Tudgeman, Sam Winan's background music is a pretty good imitation of the film music of Ennio Morricone. Who is that? He's an Italian composer who wrote the familiar music for several of director Sergio Leone's "spaghetti westerns" which starred Clint Eastwood. Among these are The Good, the Bad & the Ugly; A Fistful of Dollars, and For a Few Dollars More.

    • The school that Lizzie, Miranda and Gordo attend is identified in this episode as Hillridge Middle School.

  • Allusions

    • Gordo: I'm the king, baby!
Gordo responds this way to Tudge's question, "Who are you?" Gordo is dressed in his 1970's Elvis Presley stage outfit. Back in the mid-1950's when Presley first gained tremendous popularity, his fans and the media dubbed him "the King of Rock & Roll." The nickname "the King" stuck with him for the rest of his life. Gordo is later heard imitating Elvis when he says, "Thank ya, thank ya very much," a phrase often used by people doing Elvis impersonations.

    • Matt: Respect my authority!
After hall monitor Matt abuses his power one last time by giving his teacher a ticket, his teacher picks Matt up to take his to his office. As this is happening, Matt says "Respect my authority!" This COULD be a reference to the South Park episode "Chicken Lover" when Cartman is a cop on the show Cops and continually says " "Respect my author–i-ty" as he arrest various people during the show.

    • Miranda: "Gordo has left the building."
Miranda says this after Gordo, dressed like Elvis in his 1970's stage costume, falls off his bike and loses the Science Olympics. In the last years of Elvis Presley's live performing career, audiences clamoring for an encore were dispersed with the phrase, "Elvis has left the building."

    • Matt: I'm not joking and...don't call me Shirley.
Matt responds to the statement "Surely you're joking," with the often-used gag from the movie Airplane! (1980).
