CAPSULE: Junior-high grad Lizzie goes on a school trip to Rome with Gordo and her classmates. While there, she is spotted by an Italian pop singer named Paolo who tells her she's the spitting image of his brunette singing partner Isabella. Lizzie falls under Paolo's spell and he offers her a chance to become a secret replacement for Isabella and enjoy la dolce vita (the good life) of a superstar pop singer. READER'S CAUTION!: You might want to read the "junior novelization" of The Lizzie McGuire Movie in paperback. It might be a little shorter than this synopsis! The big day has arrived for Lizzie--she's graduating from junior high school! Her brother Matt just sees it as another opportunity to embarrass his somewhat klutzy sister. The ceremony turns out to be a disaster for Lizzie. First Kate Sanders humiliates her. Then she finds out at the last second that she will have to make a speech to the huge assembly. Unprepared, she fumbles along and ends by tripping and falling, managing to rip down the stage curtain in the process, which covers the entire graduating class! After this debacle (which is seen on Good Morning America and CNN after Matt sends them a tape!) Lizzie is ready to leave the country. She's going on a class trip to Rome, Italy, and luckily her best friend Gordo will be with her. (Miranda's absence is once again explained by saying she's still in Mexico City.) At the airport, the students are gathered together by Miss Ungermeyer, a woman with the personality of a drill sergeant and the manners of a pit bull. She'll also be their high school principal next year! The group arrives in Rome where Lizzie is unhappy to find that Kate is her roommate, but she tries to make the best of things by making Gordo promise that while they're in Rome they will have "adventures," a promise Gordo gladly makes. The class goes on their first outing to the Trevi Fountain. Lizzie throws a coin in and makes a wish. Immediately she sees an Italian guy a few years older than her staring at her like he can't believe what he sees. This is Paolo, a famous pop singer. He tells Lizzie that except for having blonde hair rather than brunette, she is an exact double of his singing partner, Isabella. Paolo wants to talk with her some more, but they are separated by a mob of fans and by Miss Ungermeyer. Paolo calls out to Lizzie to meet him tomorrow at the Fountain. Meanwhile back at home, Matt discovers Lizzie's picture on the internet. It seem some papparazzi have mistaken Lizzie for Isabella also. Matt looks at this as another chance to embarrass Lizzie, but his friend(?) Melina says he can use this as blackmail to get better things for himself. Back at the hotel, Lizzie is not sure about seeing Paolo again, but Gordo tels her to go for it, even if this "adventure" doesn't involve himself. So the next morning Lizzie pretends to be sick. Thre ploy works, and Lizzie meets up with Paolo. They go on a glorious ride through Rome, taking in all the sights from his Vespa motor scooter, followed by his burly bodyguard Sergei. Disaster almost strikes when the school group's tour bus comes upon Lizzie and Paolo, but quick-thinking Gordo distracts Ungermeyer. Back in the US, Matt deviously puts his plan into action. He convinces his parents that he misses his sister so much that they think they made a mistake in letting Lizzie go to Europe alone. They make plans to leave for Italy immediately. During their day together, Paolo tells Lizzie of some problems with his partner Isabella. It seems he's ready to break up their act and move on, but they have an obligation to make a presentation at the International Music Video Awards. Isabella has refused to do it, and Paolo has a crazy idea: he wants Lizzie to pretend to be her and go in her place! He then tells Lizzie a big secret: Isabella lip-synchs! Lizzie says she can't even think about appearing before a huge worldwide audience, and Paolo drops the idea--for now. Back at the hotel, though it seems Lizzie is falling for Paolo's charms. She tells Gordo the whole story and talks about actually impersonating Isabella at the award ceremony! Gordo tries to be supportive, but he's dubious about this Paolo character. After their conversation, Gordo's roomie Ethan Craft comes out and talks to him, telling him that he knows how he feels about Lizzie and that he also know he's jealous of Paolo. As usual, Gordo can hardly understand what Ethan is talking about. The next morning Lizzie pulls her sick routine again, then she's off with Paolo once more, teling him she'll present the award with him. Paolo takes her to the Via Condotti, a super-chic, super-expensive shopping district in Rome. Lizzie spends the day being pampered, fawned over and made over by Isabella's entourage. Lizzie is in heaven! Afterward they go out among the public, who also believe Lizzie is Isabella, and she signs autographs for "her" fans! But in another part of Rome, Gordo gets a surprise. He finds out from an Italian magazine tha Paolo and Isabella are not just supposed to present an award at the IMVA, they're supposed to SING! Back at the hotel, Lizzie may be fooling Miss Ungermeyer, but she's not fooling Kate, who knows something is up. She makes Lizzie spill her story about what's really happening. Surprisingly, though, Kate doesn't turn Lizzie in to Ungermeyer. Gordo then arrives and shows Lizzie the magazine. Lizzie refuses to believe that Paolo's deceiving her, to Gordo's disgust. Later she sneaks out to meet Paolo again. She gently confronts him, asking if they are really supposed to sing at the awards. Paolo says yes, the papparazzi heard her (as Isabella) talking, they know her voice, which she was supposedly having trouble with, is fine now, and that the record company will sue if they don't sing. But the real Isabella is away on an island vacation. Paolo swears he can make it work without embarrassing Lizzie. He's rented an auditorium rehearsal hall for them to practice the dance steps in, and of course she will just have to lip-synch, not actually sing. They conclude their day together by watching a fireworks display at night. The next morning Miss Ungermeyer is going to check on Lizzie before the group leaves the hotel. Gordo knows she's not in bed, so he tries to stop the principal. Ungermeyer begins to suspect that Lizzie has been faking all along. But before she gets a chance to go upstairs and bust Lizzie, Gordo makes a desperation move--he tell her that he is the one who's been sneaking out, not Lizzie. Grodo has saved Lizzie, but in the process he's wound up getting himself sent back home. Meanwhile on the flight over to Italy, Mat "accidentally" lets it slip about Lizzie's adventure with the Italian pop star. His parents force the story out of him, which in reality he's only too glad to tell. Lizzie and Paolo arrive at their giant rehearsal space to rehearse for the awards show to be held at the Colosseum. He encourage her to sing out loud to make her lip-synching more convincing while he says he must "save" his own voice by not singing. After rehearsals, Lizzie return to the hotel and finds out from Kate that Gordo has taken the rap for her and is being sent home. Lizzie gets the bumbling hotel clerk Giorgio to call the airport but it's too late, Gordo's plane has left. But is it too late? At the airport, who should Gordo see but Isabella! He fight his way through the reporters and photographers and manages to tell her that he knows who this blonde girl is who has been impersonating her. Isabella, anxious to find out what's happening, listens to him. Lizzie is miserable, she blames herself for Gordo being sent home. She wants to turn herself in to Ungermeyer but Kate stops her, saying if she does that then everything Gordo did will have been for nothing. This time Lizzie doesn't have to fake feeling sick. That evening the rest of the McGuires show up at the hotel looking for Lizzie. Ungermeyer takes then to her room only to find she's gone. In an instant she gets the story of where Lizzie is out of Ethan. Lizzie arrives at the International Music Video Awards with Paolo and her spirits are picked up by the cheers of the fans as she walks down (and trips over) the red carpet. Still, she's getting last-minute cold feet. But Paolo assures her that she shines "with the light of the sun." Just before Lizzie goes to her dressing room to get ready, she's surprised to see Gordo arrive! He has news for her--Paolo is setting her up. "Actually, he's setting me up," says a voice--it's Isabella! After getting over the shock of seeing each other, Isabella along with Gordo tell Lizzie the real story: he's the one who can't sing, he's the one who's trying to discredit her, she's the one ready to break up the act. In a daze, Lizzie says she can't believe it's true. Isabella asks her, "Lizzie, who are you going to believe--this boy you are knowing all your life or a boy you are just meeting who tells to you, 'You shine with the light of the sun?'" That clinches it for Lizzie. She knows Paolo has been lying to her. As Lizzie is dragged away by a stage manager, Isabella assures her it will be alright, she should just go out and lip-synch. But she then finds out Paolo told the stage manager that Isabella would be singing live--there's no vocal track for her! All of a sudden Paolo and Lizzie are onstage. Lizzie sees her family in the front row. (Miss Ungermeyer bulled their way in!) The music starts and Lizzie begins to lip-synch. Isabella's voice come flooding through the speakers. Paolo is dumbfounded, and then is shocked to see Isabella backstage, singing through a headset. Then it's Paolo's turn to sing, but his vocal track has been turned off. His real voice croaks out the lyrics--he sounds simply awful! Then Isabella hits the stage herself as the crowd gasps. "Sing to me, Paolo," she says. Once again Paolo's terrible off-key voice is heard. Voices in the crowd cry out "Impostore!" Humiliated, Paolo beats a retreat from the stage. He's through, even his bodyguard Sergei is finished with him. The performance isn't over for Lizzie, though. "Say buona sera to my new American friend, Lizzie McGuire!" says Isabella. "Would you like to hear her sing?" Summoning up all her courage, and sneaking a peek at a smiling Gordo just offstage, Lizzie begins to really sing. She carries on the duet with Isabella, who then lets her finish the song by herself. The audience loves it, and both girls bow triumphantly to wild cheering. In the hotel courtyard, a big after-show party is held. Ethan and Kate, who turned out to be a good, supportive friend to Lizzie, seem to be getting closer. Miss Ungermeyer has given Gordo a reprieve. Giorgio the hotel clerk destroys Matt's "blackmail" evidence against Lizzie. And Lizzie and Gordo sneak away to the hotel rooftop, where they had previously vowed to have adventures together. Lizzie, realizing how much Gordo has done for her, puts a hand on his cheek, leans over and kisses him. On the mouth. Not a long or hard one, but a real kiss nonetheless. A surprised Gordo manages to sputter out, "Uh...thanks!"moreless
  • At the time it was playing, it was cool, but now its one of the worst things on Disney!

Lizzie McGuire movie is about Lizzie's summer. It starts out when she's at her graduation, she's suppose to give a speach to fill in for this girl who couldn't make it. But as usual, she falls and embarrasses herself. Then shes off to her trip to Rome, she and Gordo. She's happy that Kate and her 'crew' aren't coming along, then Kate comes by to tell her that she's here to come, and makes a liitle joke about her.
When they get there Lizzie finds out that her roommate is Kate, and Gordo's is Ethan, for the trip. Lizzie and Kate don't get along, of course. The chaperone ends up being their high school principal.
Then they go on thier first field trip around Rome, Lizzie makes a wish about how she wants the trip to be fun and exciting. Then a guy, Paolo, who's a pop star says that she look like his singer partner. He asks her to fill in for her until she gets back. Lizzie agrees to hang out with him for the rest of the trip, just as long as she doesn't get caught.
Meanwhile, Matt is trying to convice his parents that sending Lizzie away was a bad idea. Only because he knows about Lizzie's secret life, and he wants to ruin her. They believe his lie that he misses her to go there.
Then Gordo finds out that Paolo was trying to make Isabella look bad, but it ends up back firing. It reveils that he couldn't sing at all. So in the end, Lizzie goes back home.
It would have been better if Hilary could of trained her voice better for the movie, she souded unprepared for it! Anouther thing that would make it all better, if she didn't try so hard to breakaway from it all.moreless

  • TRIVIA (34)

    ADD TRIVIA
    • When LIzzie and Gordo are walking onto the balcony they are holding hands, but quickly stop once they open the door.

    • When Lizzie and Paolo are walking in the marketplace and Paolo is talking about the artist who was burned at the stake, you can see an overhead microphone.

    • Nitpick: In the movie Gordo says that Lizzie's graduation robe is cool. However, in the book he says it looks hot.

    • I guess it isn't a big goof but when the Lizzie McGuire Movie trailer would play on Disney Channel or any other channel they would show a deleted scene everytime. It is the scene where Lizzie is sitting in the plane looking out the window. I believe she was wearing a purple shirt. It is shown as a deleted scene on The Lizzie McGuire Movie DVD.

    • When Paolo is telling Lizzie that they have to present the award he looses his accent twice.

    • During the part after Paolo leaves the stage and it is just Lizzie and Isabella. When Isabella askes the audience if they want to hear Lizzie sing, when they go over to Gordo telling Sandro to turn up Lizzie's mic you can see that Paolo's mic is know back to where it was when he went on to the stage at the start when he and Lizzie first started.

    • When Lizzie walks into the auditorium for graudation, she's wearing sneakers. But when she comes to the podium to deliver the speech in place of Margaret Chan, her shoes make the sound of high heels. And plus, why would she be wearing sneakers with a fancy dress?

    • In the scene where the Mcguires are trying to tell Georgio that they are the parents of Lizzie McGuire, you can see the sound microphone at the top left of the scene, right above Robert Carradine's head.

    • When Lizzie is walking into the airport, her pants are unrolled. Then, when she leaves her parents for the first time, her pants are cuffed. After hugging them and leaving to board the plane, her pants are unrolled again. On the plane, they appear to be cuffed.

    • When Lizzie and Kate ask Georgio if Gordo's plane has left yet, they refer to him as, "Gordo" and not, "David Gordon", yet Georgio still knows who they're talking about.

    • Continuity Goof: When Lizzie first starts singing on stage (with Paolo), the space on her stomach is small to where we barely see skin. When she starts to sing with Isabella, the space is bigger where we see half of her belly button, then it goes to being a triangle where we see her whole belly button. Then, it's a rectangle, then it's back to how it was when we first started to see her sing, then it briefly disappears, and finally it's a square that shows her whole belly button.

    • When the gang arrives at Rome and are in the bus looking at the sights, you can see that it is already dark. But when Gordo drags Lizzie to the balcony, the sun is still up.

    • When everyone is at the airport getting ready to leave for Rome, Kate walks in the waiting area and says "How many Lizzie's does it take to screw in a light bulb?". Theres an Air Canada plane taxi-ing along in the background outside. The camera then goes to Gordo and Lizzie who look at each other for a very brief moment, and then its back to Kate. Kate finishes her little joke "I don't know, but it only takes one to screw up a graduation". In the background outside, there is no plane, like Air Canada plane just suddenly disappered. At the speed the plane was travelling, there is no way that it could have possibly moved so fast in that brief clip of Lizzie and Gordo.

    • Nitpick---When Lizzie is being taken to her dressing room, Isabella yells to "Change! Chage your clothes and everything will be fine." When she says "Change your clothes" Hilary loses the accent just for a second but it's long enough even though she quickly recovers the Italian accent.

    • When Paolo comes to pick up Lizzie in his little car, Lizzie's hair is straight. But when she is sneaking past Georgio, her hair is all frizzed up. Wouldn't that take at least half an hour to do?

    • During the graduation ceremony, the emcee introduces the class president using the real whole name. But when Lizzie was called, the emcee says Lizzie Mcguire, not Elizabeth Brooke Mcguire or Elizabeth Mcguire.

    • The second day Lizzie is shown on the vespa with Paolo (when "Why Not" is playing) you can just barely see that she is wearing a light pink top. However, a few seconds later, she is wearing a jean jacket; a completely different outfit from before. (The light pink, fluttery top was shown in the Movie Surfers commerical where Lindsay met "Paolo.") It's likely the editors completely cut out the scenes where Lizzie was wearing the pink top. It has been reported that in the DVD this goof does not appear.

    • When Lizzie talks to Paolo outside of the gellato shop, Lizzie's bottom hair clip is even with her eyebrows. However, in the next quick shot of her, the clip is in the middle of her forehead and in correct position.

    • At graduation the tassels are shown to be hanging over the left side of the cap, traditionally however tassels are to be worn on the right side until you are announced as graduated then it is symbolically moved to the left.

    • Goof or not a Goof: In the scene when Lizzie and Paolo are signing autographs some of Lizzie's hair is in braids but when she is sneaking into the hotel her hair is perfectly strait, yet when she gets into bed it's in braids again.

    • Nitpick: Paolo and Lizzie are rehearsing a soft ballad of "What Dreams are Made Of". When they perform at the awards, it's the same, but when Paolo leaves and Lizzie and Isabella take over, it becomes a dance song. Sure, it would sound awkward, two girls singing a love song (almost as if to each other) but where did this dance track come from, and how did they know it would almost fit the lyrics and what to change where it didn't fit? Although, some viewers disagree with this point.

    • When Toon Lizzie is thanking everybody Larry's name appears on the list even though he is never mentioned or seen in the movie. Another name that is missing from the list is that of Miranda.

    • Kate accuses Lizzie of wearing the same dress at graduation that she did at the spring dance. But in "You're a Good Man, Lizzie McGuire," Lizzie didn't go to the Spring Fling dance. (Unless there was more than one "spring dance." That doesn't seem likely, but as many viewers have noticed, they have an awful lot of dances at Hillridge!) Also, when Lizzie is trying on the clothes with Paolo, she says that the material looks exactly the same as what she wore to the spring dance. But, as it has been pointed out, she didnt go to the dance.

    • A nitpick: While showing Lizzie around Rome, Paolo points out a place where the famous Italian painter Caravaggio (1573-1610) was burned at the stake, he thinks. Actually, Caravaggio died in July 1610 in Port Ercole, likely of pneumonia, while on his way to obtain a pardon from the pope.

    • The list of people Toon Lizzie holds up that she wants to thank has "Mom" listed twice.

    • Lack of continuity: Lizzie doesn't seem to remember from the episode "Clue-less" that Gordo likes her as more than a friend when Kate tells her that Gordo allowed himself to be sent home to protect her. Gordo also doesn't seem to remember that he likes Lizzie from the episodes "Dear Lizzie" and "Bye, Bye Hillridge Junior High" when Ethan points this out to him.

    • Miss Ungermeyer states that the Trevi Fountain was designed by the architects Pietro da Cortona and Gian Lorenzo Bernini. While the early plans for Rome's most famous fountain, may have been started by them, the work was halted by the death of Pope Urban VIII in 1623. It wasn't until around a hundred years later that Pope Clement XII chose the design of Nicola Silva and entrusted its completion to him from 1732 to 1751.

    • Miss Ungermeyer appears to be the only adult in charge of the large group of students visiting a foreign country, a situation that seems highly unlikely.

    • In the scene where Miss Ungermeyer is going down the hotel's hallway checking in the rooms, she opens the door to room 102, where she speaks to Ethan. When she closes the door, its number is 103.

    • Giorgio the hotel clerk seems to barely be able to speak or even understand English in the scenes where Miss Ungermeyer and the McGuires talk to him, yet he seems to speak it much better when Paolo and Matt are talking to him.

    • In order to save Lizzie from being caught, Gordo tells Miss Ungermeyer that Lizzie's fake illness was all a part of a ruse to cover up his sneaking out of the hotel every night. But how could Lizzie's being ill during the day (when Gordo was on the tour bus with Ungermeyer) help Gordo cover up sneaking out at night?

    • Not a Goof? When the McGuires arrive at the hotel, Miss Ungermeyer takes them to her room, which contains a full-length mirror. In the mirror can be seen three moving shadows, presumably crew members. However, at least one viewer beleives if the three shadows are studied carefully, you will realize that they all have the same body shapes and sizes as do the first three characters that walked in (and in the same order too). In addition, the third shawdow is seen carrying a small video camera, just as did Matt when he walked in.

    • A traveller to Rome tells us that the Colosseum could not handle the kind of stage show seen in the movie; specifically, the audience would be behind too many columns and standing in thick undergrowth.

    • The size of Lizzie's graduating class is three to four times bigger than the group seen in the class picture which was taken in "Bye, Bye Hillridge Junior High."

Gordo: I actually feel my brain turning into goo. Ethan: Embrace the sting. That's what you're vibin' here from Lizzie. Gordo: Wait a minute. Now, you actually think that I'm jealous of Paolo. Ethan: Word. Gordo: (chuckling) Oh, no. No, see, that would mean that I like Lizzie as more than a friend. Ethan: See? What do you mean you and I have trouble communicating, bro? Gordo: You're wrong, man!

    • Lizzie: (Referring to Paolo and Isabella's CD) Here. Listen. Isabella: (Singing) You don't have to sail the ocean. Gordo: Yeah. Not bad. (Sniff) You use scented soap, huh? Lizzie: (Giggles) What? Gordo: Um...it...N-never...never mind.

    • Miss Ungermeyer: "You're on the list, Mr. Gordon. The list is not a place you want to be."

    • Lizzie: "You know, these guys [Paolo & Isabella] aren't bad. I mean, if you're into Alanis Morissettey dark, like, brooding I-never-go-out-in-the-sunlight-my-life-is-a-black-hole-of-depression kind of stuff, then you'd think they suck, but for the driving-around-in-the-car-putting-on-the-lip-gloss-with-the-top-down-loving-life kind of a thing, they're good."

    • Miss Ungermeyer: "Attention, parents! SHUT YOUR PIEHOLES!"

    • Kate: "Oh..my...God! Only you would think that you could hide the powder blue, puffy-sleeved, it's-kind-of-a-peasant-dress-but-it-might-be-just-a-baggy-disaster-of-questionable-fiber-content that you wore to the spring dance! (unzips Lizzie's gown) LIZZIE McGUIRE, YOU ARE AN OUTFIT REPEATER!" Toon Lizzie: "Maybe I'm an outfit repeater, but you're an outfit rememberer, which is just as pathetic."

    • Miss Ungermeyer: "Have you even made a dent in your reading list?" Ethan: "I finished it." Miss Ungermeyer: "You mean you read eleven books?" Ethan: "I meant I read the list."

    • Lizzie: "Paolo, are we supposed to sing?" Paolo: "Scusa?" Toon Lizzie: "Don't speak to me in Italian...it's too adorable."

    • Miss Ungermyer: "Craft, Sanders, separate!" Kate: "Oh, we did, Miss Ungermeyer, and thank God!"

    • Jo McGuire: "Honey, just yesterday you were in diapers--now you've graduated junior high, and you're growing up, going to Rome for two weeks all by yourself. Without me. Without me there. Without me with you. You there. Without me." Lizzie: "That's just about all the combinations of those words you can make, Mom."

  • NOTES (17)

    ADD NOTES
    • The DVD features an extended ending that shows everyone on the plain home, and sleeping.

    • Hilary Duff's best friend Taylor plays Kate's friend during the graduation scene and can be seen in the "Diary of Hilary Duff" on MTV.

    • It is finally revealed that Kate and Ethan did date at some point in the show when Kate tells Miss Ungermyer that they separated. While it was always aluded in the show that something was between the two nothing was ever solid, this can be seen in "Lizzie's Eleven" where Kate and Ethan were at the school event together and possibly "Clue-less" where Kate basically tells Lizzie that she should take Gordo and she would take Ethan.

    • In the film Kate says "Oh my G-d" on a number of occasions. In the TV show they would always go around this word by saying "Oh my gosh!" Disney's programming standards are different for their movies and allow for "Oh my G-d"

    • Mr. Escobar does not use the blue scarf Gordo told Lizzie Mr. Escobar always wear.

    • When Gordo is about to board his flight home after covering for Lizzie, you can hear over the speaker that the flight he is boarding is to Los Angeles. This tells us that the characters probably live near L.A.

    • Troy Rowland, who plays Mr. Lang on the TV series, makes a cameo appearance here as the driver of the tram Miss Ungermeyer arrives in at the airport. Rowland also served as dialog coach for the series and this movie.

    • Jo states that the heart necklace Lizzie has worn throughout much of the series was given to Lizzie by her.

    • Mr. Escobar states that Lizzie was the secretary/treasurer for her class.

    • Some minor differences from the TV series: The set for the McGuire's house is clearly different, notice the doorway leading into the kitchen, and Jo is wearing a different style of glasses.

    • Music includes: *"The Tide is High (Get That Feeling)" by the British female trio Atomic Kitten, from their 2003 CD Atomic Kitten. It's heard during the opening sequence. Many of us know it (without the parenthetical addition to the title) as a huge hit for Deborah Harry and the group Blondie. It was on their fifth album, Autoamerican, and shot to the top of the charts in January 1981, making it the group's third number 1. The song was first a hit in the 1960s for a Jamaican pop group known as the Paragons, the most popular "rock-steady" act in Jamaica and Great Britain. *"On an Evening in Roma" by Dean Martin (1917-1995), heard on the group's arrival in Rome. Martin was a smooth Italian-American crooner whose career started in the 1940's. He grew to icon status as one of Gordo's beloved "Rat Pack" in the 1950's and '60's with Frank Sinatra, Sammy Davis Jr. and others. He also enjoyed great success as an actor/comedian and partnered in many films with Jerry Lewis. *"Volare" by the young American singer Vitamin C (Colleen Fitzpatrick), heard during Lizzie's first ride on the Vespa with Paolo. It was originally a worldwide hit for Italian singer Domenico Modugno in 1958. Its real title is "Nel Blu Dipinti Blu," but English-speaking listeners have always referred to it by its opening lyric, "Volare." Vitamin C's version is considerably modernized. (The soundtrack CD erroneously says that this song is not featured in the movie.) *"Why Not," heard in two versions. The most familiar one by Hilary Duff is heard on Lizzie's second Vespa ride and following scene with Paolo. A dance remix of the song sung by Hilary is played during the first portion of the closing credits. At the time of the movie's release, the single record by Hilary Duff was beginning to get some wider airplay after weeks of relentless promotion by Disney. *"Supermodel" by Taylor Dayne, a dance/pop singer most popular in the late 1980's-early '90's with hits like "Tell It to My Heart." This song, originally a hit for cross-dressing model/singer/actor (actress?) RuPaul in 1994, is heard when Lizzie, as Isabella, is getting her fashion makeover. *"Shining Star" by Jump5, the teen pop singing group whose songs "Spinnin' Around" and "All the Time in the World" were used on the Lizzie TV show. This song was originally a #1 hit (May 1975) for Earth, Wind & Fire, a very popular funk/soul/R&B group. It's played when Lizzie (as Isabella) and Paolo arrive at the International Music Video Awards. *"Open Your Eyes (To Love)" by LMNT (pronounced "element"), a fairly new arrival on the rock scene. This romantic ballad is heard when Lizzie and Paolo are watching fireworks at night and it returns during the latter portion of the closing credits. *"What Dreams Are Made Of" Hilary Duff's song is heard first when Lizzie and Paolo rehearse a ballad version alone together. That's followed by an uptempo instrumental version to which they rehearse their dance steps. The ballad returns during the Colloseum concert with Lizzie, Isabella and Paolo, followed by an uptempo dance remix. The remix is also heard during the opening portion of the closing credits. *"Girl in the Band" by Haylie Duff. Although the soundtrack CD says it's not in the movie, a few seconds of this song by Hilary's older sister can be heard playing over Ethan's headphones in the scene where he's confronted by Miss Ungermeyer and the McGuires over Lizzie's wherabouts. *"All Around the World" by Cooler Kids. This has been a recent hit on the dance charts to this Brooklyn duo who are produced by Jill Cunniff of Luscious Jackson. It's played at the Video Awards show. *"You Make Me Feel Like a Star" by the Beau Sisters, who are a singing group consisting of four real-life sisters from Florida via New York City. The song is heard in a scene where Lizzie (as Isabella) and Paolo are in a plaza in Rome surrounded by fans. *In addition, there's original music by composer Cliff Eidelman (arranged in the "Orchestral Suite" on the soundtrack CD). A couple of other odds and ends: The junior high band plays a ragged version of Sir Edward Elgar's Pomp and Circumstance march (Number 1), a tune traditionally played at graduations and other momentous ceremonies; and during the reception after the awards show the Italian song "Funiculi Funicula" can be heard being played in the background on an accordian. Elliot Lurie, music supervisor on the TV show, serves the same role here. *Music not heard in the film: Despite their being used in many promos, "I Can't Wait" by Hilary Duff and "Roam" by the B-52's are not to be found in the movie. Neither is that bright, sprightly classical music theme which is the opening of Felix Mendelssohn's Symphony No. 4, also known as his "Italian" symphony.

    • Characters mentioned but not seen: Margaret Chan, class president, and Danny Kessler.

    • Continuity: Lizzie states that the reason Miranda isn't going on the class trip is because she is still in Mexico City. This ties in with why Miranda wasn't in "Bye, Bye Hillridge Junior High" which was that she was on vacation with her family in Mexico. Sam is seen once again painting one of his gnomes. In the opening scene, Lizzie is singing into her hair brush, which is something she mentioned doing in the episode "Over the Hill."

    • The title Ciao Lizzie was announced in September 2002 after the go-ahead for a Lizzie McGuire theatrical release movie was given in August. But in late November, Movies at Yahoo.com said that "apparently" the title went back to The Lizzie McGuire Movie. But then in late December, the movie was referred to on Hilary Duff's website as "Lizzie in Rome." Filming began on October 14, 2002 in Rome, then moved to Vancouver, B.C., Canada. The movie wrapped on December 11, 2002. In her question-and-answer section at her official fansite, Hilary Duff confirmed that Lalaine would not be in the film. Neither would Kyle J. Downes (Larry Tudgeman) or Christian Copelin (Lanny).
