In downtown Louisville, Kentucky, two adjoining buildings serve as the center of the county's criminal justice system. They house both the courts and the Louisville Metro Department of Corrections Jail. On any given day, about 2300 men and women are incarcerated here. Most have only been accused of crimes and are awaiting trial or the resolution of their cases. It can be a tense environment, as inmates and the officers who supervise them, know all too well. In this hour, the jail responds with force after an officer is assaulted and inmates attempt escape. An 18-year old shoots her father to death then finds a surrogate mother on the inside.
