Logie Awards

Show Summary

The TV Week Logie Awards are the Australian television industry awards. There are several awards categories, though the most prestigious is the Gold Logie, which is awarded to the 'most popular personality on Australian television'. Originally called The TV Week Awards at its inception in 1959, the first awards were largely informal - presented on an episode of In Melbourne Tonight. Graham Kennedy renamed the show in 1960, following his win for 'Star Of The Year'. The name 'Logie' honors John Logie Baird, a Scotsman who invented the television as a practical medium.
