A Longmire Community
Netflix
Wow guys, that was an intense episode. In this week’s season finale Longmire took a break from the case of the week and spent the night addressing our three continuing season and series long storylines.

O Henry

The events surrounding the death of Walt’s wife and the subsequent killing of her murderer returned to the forefront this week as Detective Fales continued on his crusade to get Walt. Fales’s new evidence (in the form of an eye witness that could positively ID Walt as having asked about and subsequently attacked his wife’s murderer) gave him the ability to obtain search warrants for Walt’s home and office and Henry’s bar. Throughout the episode Fales maintained an absolute look of glee that he was going to get his very own big bad. Kudos for the writing and acting because they are doing a great job of making me seriously dislike Detective Fales. Much to Walt’s surprise Henry revealed that he had not killed the murdered, but rather brought in the reservation’s “fixer” Hector to do the deed. Unbeknownst to Henry, while Hector had indeed beaten the murderer he had not finished the job because he did not consider it his place in the world to be a killer.

Unfortunately for Henry, Hector had taken two of the murderer’s teeth as proof of the deed or as a sort of talisman which Henry foolishly held onto and Matthias easily found for Detective Fales. Fales took another opportunity to shove everything in Walt’s face by informing him of Henry’s arrest. He also displayed a disturbing amount of intensity with regard to the neat little “evil box” stereotype that he had decided Walt fit into as a lawman. However, there may still be hope left for Henry as Cady reminded Walt that her mother only carried around $50 and the murderer had ended up with $700. Walt even floated the theory that someone paid to have his wife murdered and then killed the murderer. This should set up a great storyline for next season as Walt begins his own investigation into this (which I hope we’re getting, I have yet to see any news about a season 3 renewal).

The Men in Vic’s Life

So it turns out that Vic’s relationship with Ed had not always been a strictly professional one, which wasn’t too surprising. However, it did add another layer to the motivation behind Ed’s crazy actions of the past few weeks. Vic ended up hiring Hector to beat up Ed after all and this week began with Ed in the hospital placing the blame and attack squarely on Walt’s shoulders. Upon learning of this Vic decided to confess instead to get Walt out of the line of fire. Walt in the meantime hunted down Hector and arrested him for the crime to prevent Vic from being charged – then fired – then being unhireable forever.

Unfortunately for Vic this attempt to appease Ed in his efforts to destroy her life were in the end rejected as Ed bailed the hospital leaving behind another ominous note with the threat that he would see her soon. Rather than being supportive this week, Vic’s husband threw a passive aggressive cold shoulder her way when he discovered the identity of Vic’s stalker. This left Vic at home alone with her gun, living in fear once more.

Please Save Branch

After getting arrested by Matthias for being sketchy on the reservation (oh my god that was a hilarious scene as Walt drove up), Branch filled Walt in on his activities investigating Cady’s flat tire. After discovering that the culprit had committed suicide, Branch returned to interrogate Jacob once again. Jacob claimed that the young man had become unwound and wanted to turn back time and that he had nothing to do with his death. He had, however, burned the body. Jacob refused to let Branch take a DNA sample from the burn site and upon returning to take said sample Branch was shot multiple times by an unknown assailant (or the “dead guy” as Branch put it). Branch was able to put in a call to Walt, with Walt rushing to Branch’s aid as the episode ended.

Who shot Branch?

Will Henry be saved?

Who paid to have Walt's wife killed?

What are you most looking forward to next season?

I think Jacob is behind Walt's wife murder as any Casino development with all the promised millions of dollars shining in the future tend to have these casualties. Jacob tried to get Walt out of the way by siding with Branch for the Sheriff election, and now that he lost, we are to believe that him getting shot is a coincidence. Branch was lured into this remote spot and the whole plan was to get him shot. by telling Branch not to take DNA samples from the "grave", Jakob made sure that our favorite Deputy would come back alone .
I think Fales is being manipulated. He seems genuinely a good cop, but by the way he thinks he has figured it out, the specifics of rhetorics and body language show that he is "repeating" the words of someone else. Then again, we were privvy to the three major reveals ourselves and we didn't see that coming. So, we can't blame him all that much for his attitudes.

Great review thanks!

I thought the cliff hanger was amazing.

The reveal that Walt did not kill his wife's murderer and that he actually did not ask his childhood and best friend Henry to do it for him says a lot about Walt and precisely proves that he is nothing like those "sheriffs that got away with murder" that Detective Fales wants to catch.

Interestingly, Henry didn't commit the murder either but asked somebody else to kill the methhead. The triple reveal is when Hector clarifies that he didn't kill the man either but just beat him within an inch of life! That was pure genius me thinks!

Still believe that Katee Sackhoff is criminally underused as Vic! Why, Cassidy Freeman's character has had a much more interesting arc and has been better "fleshed up" than Vic!!!!

I am really looking forward to next season: I hope there is one! :-S

If you haven't read / aren't familiar with the books, possible spoiler alert .......

The one aspect missing from the finale is any real development between Walt and Vic. In the books they're together. I know many fans have said they can't picture it etc., but if they're following the books (which they may not be, and I'd be fine either way) it's bound to happen. I know Walt stepped in with Ed Gorsky without being asked and everyone keeps saying that she must have slept with him etc., but I'm curious to see how this is going to develop, if it does at all.

I feel like they could pull a Mulder/Scully here. LIke they will eventually mention a hook up but never show it or elaborate.

Agreed. That would almost be the best way to go about it because fans are so torn over whether or not they think it should happen at all, despite the books.

OK so now that this show is going strong - ratings in key the demos rose significantly this season. This network only has three original dramas (Longmire, Bates Motel, and The Glades) and 'Longmire' does the best by far of all three. Both 'The Glades' and 'Longmire' got their best ratings of the year for their finales. 'Longmire' has improved on its numbers and has become - as this finale showed - a very impressive very well cast summer show. It would defy logic if it didn't get a third season. So what is holding up the renewal announcement? Hopefully it comes soon.

Maybe The Ferg shot Branch because he is still pissed to have found out about him and Cady? KIDDING but Ferg did act like an a hole when he found that out. Maybe this will bring Gerald McRaney back into the story which is good because this dynamic between father and son is something I really like about Longmire.

Henry better be saved. If I was A & E I would try to get Esai Morales to come in and play his attorney cause its about time someone got 'Ritchie' and 'Bob' back together again.) Anyone? ? ?

I'm liking Lee Tergeson on this show and he really kicked Katee Sackhoff's story into high gear so interested to see how that story plays out. Applause for the women of Longmire this season - Katee, Cassidy Freeman, and Katherine LaNasa all got decent story arcs this season. I'm keeping fingers crossed that we haven't seen the last of 'Lizzie' cause I like her and Walt together.

This is one of my favorite spring/summer shows , and I thought it was kind of cool to have Walt save Branch like that. Agree that the last two have felt like finales, there`s been plenty to get their teeth stuck into without it feeling rushed or cramped...dexter are you hearing me?

This was hands down the best episode of the series, which is saying a lot considering the two episodes before this felt like finales (I was seriously confused about the finale, after each episode I kept asking my husband, "Is this the finale?" they were that good).

Branch will live - if not for the "he's good looking" reasoning that draws viewership definitely for the dynamic he adds to the show alongside Walt. Since the election and Cady's accident I've loved the shift in the Branch/Walt relationship and it would be a shame if this didn't continue to evolve.

Branch was shot by the guy who's ashes he was supposed to be collecting - my guess is that Jacob somehow staged the video since you never really see the guy shoot himself, it's just *really* implied. You can't interrogate a dead guy, which makes things easier for Jacob, but having a guy around willing to do that kind of dirty work is also advantageous for Jacob so staging his death is definitely in the realm of possibilities. Freeing him up to off Branch (who won't die but still ...) leaving no one taking the fall (since Branch will say a dead guy shot him it's not likely to be believable and you know Jacob has a solid alibi).

As far as who paid to have Walt's wife killed - I'm with the theory that it was Lucien Connally.

Who shot Branch? The guy that faked his suicide (He stood up with head and shoulders out of frame for the gunshot).

Will Henry be saved? Duh! Of course. I was initially thinking that they would find partial finger prints on the teeth that would not be Henrys, but it sure looks like Fales mishandled that piece of evidence, doesn't it?

Who paid to have Walt's wife killed? If it wasn't Fales himself, then someone he is working for. He is involved up to his short and curlies. We will probably find out it is someone that had a grudge against Walt.

What am I looking forward to? A plane falling out of the sky and killing that piece of [insert your favorite word for excrement here] Ed. Or maybe him getting run over by a cement truck (accidentally or otherwise is fine as long as it can't be traced back to Vic or Walt). Or maybe his car getting attacked by a heard of buffalo and he gets gored and stomped to death. Or maybe just another season of a good show.
