A Longmire Community
Netflix

Longmire is riding off into the sunset.

The crime drama has been canceled by A&E after three seasons, TV.com has confirmed.

"We would like to thank the phenomenal cast, crew, and producers of Longmire, along with our partners at Warner Horizon, for their tireless work on three seasons of quality dramatic storytelling," the cable network said in a statement. "We are incredibly proud of what we have achieved together."

The series wrapped its third season earlier this month with a cliffhanger finale centered on who fell victim to the gunshot that Walt (Robert Taylor) heard. The episode grabbed 3.7 million viewers and a 0.6 rating in the 18-49 demo, down from the 4.4 million and a 0.9 for the Season 2 finale.

According to TV Line, producer Warner Horizon plans to shop the series to other networks.

Set in Wyoming, Longmire also starred Battlestar Galactica alum Katee Sackhoff, Lou Diamond Phillips, Damages alum Bailey Chase, Smallville alum Cassidy Freeman, and Adam Bartley.

Will you miss Longmire?

I'm shocked and extremely disappointed! I thought A&E stood for "arts and entertainment"? This show was artistically written, acted, and shot; the show was entertaining but not with all the blood, guts, and sex we now have on the major networks and cable. I hope that it gets picked up by another network.

I hope Warner Horizon can find another network to air Longmire, it seams A&E is only interested in reruns and junk programs.

To senior vp of a&e, money and age is your reason for cancelling longmire. What is the age of your stockholders? I will bet its not in the lower tier of age group. I read somewhere that a person who uses swear words to get their point across doesnt have intelligence. Well sometimes its the best way to get point across short and to the point with the feeling towards the dimwit that thinks Im to old. Maybe we dont give our opinion as much as a younger person, but we will speak up when told we are old broke and stupid. So f--k off Mr. Senior VP of A&E quit pissin us off and hopefully they can find a network so we can continue to enjoy Longmire, Glades and what ever else, and not have to watch your network.

Cancelling Longmire makes no sense at all. At least from a viewers' standpoint. It had good story-writing and good acting and direction. Lets hope the show runners can get another network to pick it up in time for the new year. Longmire has a few more good seasons left in it. Let them happen.

WHYYYYYYYYYYY? This is sad on so many levels. Certainly hope the producers can sell it to another network that will treat the show with the respect it deserves.

A&E is, has been and always will be a 5th rate network as long as they continue to show nothing but tired reruns and trashy (un)reality shows. Just plain garbage. They have canceled the only two shows that I EVER watched on the network. This viewer has NO reason to return.

Ugh another A&E series cancelled on a cliffhanger just like The Glades. Was this show also axed so they could put more money into redneck garbage like Duck Dynasty?

I want the show back on!!...not enough comments here but where can we complain!? I have tried several times over the last month to send an email to A&E - just bounces back. (got the email addy from their website) ..anyone know where I could write to?
I heard it may be picked up by another network..that would be great! I found it entertaining, somewhat educational about life in the west - good acting, good characters....a good show ...need to find out who got shot!

PS--- Arts & Entertainment network now wants only Reality shows!...shame, shame...I agree with Jimdickerson96! ...that stuff is just crap and not worth watching. They are just a part of dumbing down American...and our teens. If we don't complain we can't say we didn't try to change things.....

How could you fu*king cancel this AE. It is the only show i watch on your network and you are cable TV, so don't give us the "low ratings" crap. Such an amazing show. I was complaining there wasn't enough episodes of it and now there's going to be none?

They better find a new home for this show.

one of my top 3 shows on tv. and now its gone.

there have been some very bad cancellations the last few years but this one is tops. there is no reason worth mentioning why this killer show with its awsome cast should get booted.

SHAME ON A&E!! go to tv.com and get your ratings UP or give it a ratin g if you havnt already so when they shop the show to othr networks the fan ratings will be behind it. has to be 8.5 or better.

Why is it all of the good shows get cancelled, and they're replaced by 'reality' garbage?! I would happily boycott A&E - very disappointed.

The take off the good shows and replace them with mindless idiot shows called "reality shows" that are so staged it isn't even funny. Our society cannot handle using their brains anymore so the "big wigs" take off decent, well acted enjoyable shows that you got to think and reason through. I have watched Longmire since day one and am sick about this!

Here's the kicker: Since its cancellation, more people I know are watching the show on Netflix...even folks who never (great marketing, A&E) heard of it before!

They are crazy!!! Do they think we tune into their network for anything other than Longmire? A&E is not on my first list of anything else to watch unless I'm trying to go to sleep.

A&E has lost another viewer, also. I'm also tired of the reality shows but beyond that Longmire was one of the best shows aired, it was one of the few nights I actually turned the tv on for. I'm very disappointed & hope this show will find a new home which will run a longer season for it and show it a lot more often.

A&E has just lost another viewer. I am so tired of TV execs thinking they know me. Demographics don't say a thing about real viewers and it's time they actually talked to us. I don't want reality TV because it isn't REAL. Enough is enough. Put on shows people watch and maybe you won't be losing people.

These are the same geniuses that "banned" Phil Robertson,,, and then put him back. I certainly don't want to believe this garbage they call reality TV gets better ratings than Longmire but if it does this country is in even worse trouble than I thought. C ya A&E

Reality TV - just by the title, is a joke. Where is the reality? I saw a couple minutes of this overweight dye-haired dance instructor lady yelling at little pageant girls on one channel (SMILE!), half naked backstabbing campers on an island, and what is Cardashcrap even doing on TV? Longmire is a KEEPER!

This is one of two things in my opinion. 1. This is purposed solely to create a buzz just to see what voices speak up or 2. TV executives get paid way too much to make intelligent decisions (like most government leaders, they don't listen to the people that they are supposed to represent). Keep Longmire or someone else please scarf them up!

They always cancel the best shows! Hope its picked up by someone else.

The Finder was the real cliffhanger, fair enough one of the main characters died irl but they could have worked around it.

We love this show. It actually had some real drama and not just indiscriminate sex & violence. I say keep Longmire. We don't need any more reality shows.

This network must be run by socialists who hate success or don't have share holders to answer to...OR, they hate good, quality (conservative leaning) entertainment more than they like success. SHEESH! First they try to kill the #1 reality show on cable and now they cancel their top rated scripted show?! Someone needs to start a network and put Longmire on, the Benham Brothers, and I bet the Robertsons would soon join them!

I've watched every episode from the start, and I don't see the show as having any particular political orientation. Certainly not "conservative leaning." I'm ultra-liberal, and I love it. It's just great character-driven drama. The network is run by money-grubbing execs who want to target a younger demographic that will bring in more ad dollars. They don't care what old fogeys over 49 watch or enjoy.

Wait, you consider Longmire a conservative show? I've always seen it as a show about an antiauthoritative guy who thinks for himself, and takes action according to his judgement as a human, even if it runs counter to the rules/law. That makes him a forward thinking person, or progressive, in my opinion.

He is not clouded by prejudice and traditional rules of society, as evident by the fact that his best friend is of a different social caste (white guy and native american).

Either way, very sad that this show has been axed. There are not enough western shows and movies anyways, and now there's one less.

I agree to disagree about the ideology behind Longmire. There is a constant tension between authority and free will. Conservative might not be the best description. Maybe Libertarian.
Whatever...tits and vampires win over again. Sad

Never fails, great shows continue to get canceled and usually leave you hanging. Should be a law for sure. What do we have left from A&E? Crap like Duck Dynasty, Parking Wars, Hoarders, Storage Wars and more. Give me a break. Next they will be canceling Hell on Wheels and The Walking Dead..................

Well Duck Dynasty, Parking Wars, Hoarders, Storage Wars and so on are really profitable-- Longmire is currently not so.

Really A&E ? Cancelling Longmire ? Do you realise Longmire is even popular in Australia ? You can keep your reality rubbish, just give us Longmire. I think you'll find in time what a stupid mistake you have actually made....idiots !!!

I am always surprised at what gets cut. Maybe I'm just an outlier, but all the shows I really like never go too long. First it was "The Dresden Files," then "Firefly." I'm a little too young to use "Star Trek" in this argument, but it seems to me that whatever system television networks use to judge a show's popularity just isn't working.
4

You mean ratings that lead directly to the shows ability to sell ad slots? No, that system isn't working at all!

Dresden Files was garbage! I say an avid follower of the books. The departures of the little things/details in the Dresden Files was insufferable!
Reply

I never read the books. But, in my observations, authenticity is not a guiding force in media. I just liked the characters, the interesting mix of camp and sexiness, and the overarching plotline. I should really try the books, since one cannot continue to watch the same twelve episodes over and over again!
