A Longmire Community
Netflix (Returning September 23, 2016)

A&E's dusty procedural Longmire has been found guilty... of getting a third season! *shoots guns in the air like a happy Yosemite Sam*

Following Monday's strong Season 2 finale, word is out that the network liked what it saw and wants the drama to come back for more. And the news of the renewal comes straight from someone who should know, executive producer John Coveny. Coveny spoiled the A&E press release department's thunder and announced the good word on Twitter.

The drama stars Robert Taylor as Sheriff Walt Longmire, a Montana lawman who returns to work after the death of his wife. Katee Sackhoff, Bailey Chase, and Lou Diamond Phillips also star in the series. Longmire crept along rather quietly but has developed a following. The Season 2 finale drew one of the series' biggest audiences, pulling in 4.42 million viewers.

A&E has not confirmed the renewal, but Longmire is the network's most-watched show and it's only a matter of time until the A&E makes it official. Things like most-watched shows tend to get renewed. The news was first reported (we believe) by Deadline

Good news, I like Longmire.
Its good old fashion TV, more substance than style.

What I like about Longmire is that I miss the old fashion westerns where the folks know everybody and cares. A sheriff that looks for justice, not necessarily just solving the crime. It took his daughter landing in the hospital for him to get a cell phone, and he values and respects traditions but keeps his secrets close to his vest. It is refreshing to see less emphasis on the the lab and more on investigating the hunches. He is a man out of time, but not out of place. Branch and Vic keep up with the modern DNA and forensic work and push him forward into the present all the while learning that there is more to solving crimes than just analyzing the evidence. They have to understand the motivations of people too.

Great show though at times it feels like it is going nowhere. I wish the events in the Finale had been at the beginning of the year. it seems like they tried to make the election a big deal and then casually just wrote it off for whatever reason. Regardless, Im glad it is renewed. The performances are pretty great and its very well filmed most of the time.

This show is actually GREAT and different for a sheriff/cop kinda show. I like it a lot and I'm happy to hear they renewed it. A&E got at least two good shows in Longmire & Bates Motel.

Does this show really rate higher than Bates Motel? I haven't been paying attention to A&E lately, but I'm pretty sure Bates has been pulling 1.1's, 1.2's in the demo. I just can't see a western topping that if Justified can't even.

A police show that's not completely reliant on sex, violence, car chases, techno-babble or CGI what possible appeal could it have?

@Gully_Foyle, Not saying anything to the quality of the show, I've actually never seen it. I'm just saying that by definition westerns on tv these days aren't record-breaking in the rating.

Thats because there are no other westerns on tv these days! Well Hell on Wheels, but thats in a whole other league of television. But anyways, the lack of westerns is a huge problem!

Longmire is less a western and more a small-town story (that just happens to be settled by modern cowboys, a few old fashioned cowboys, Indians, casinos and oil interests). It is so popular because a)it reminds people of a western b)its not too western for non-western fans to not like it c)its unlike everything else on tv d)its smart without being 'too smart' e)Its well written, acted and filmed.

What about The Glades? I mean really, they left you hanging on that one. I personally never could get into Longmire, I tried, but it could not hold my interest.

It's possible to enjoy both The Glades and Longmire, and not be insulting towards people with different taste than you. Really, it is.

First season of The Glades was excellent, after that it went drastically down hill, the only good thing about the show now is when I watch it it lasts about 30 mins as every time Callie or the brat come on I fast forward, shame that they obviously fired anyone with talent on the writing staff, it's always the same damn thing:

1. Find murder victim
2. Speak to first suspect
3. Arrest someone, then release them, then arrest someone else, then release them
4. Arrest first suspect who did it all along
5. End show

That's strange, I think more people tend to watch Kiele Sanchez in slow motion (This has been an obligatory The Perfect Getaway nude scene reference).

Nothing against the actress obviously it's the fault of the writing staff they turned her into such a whiny, tedious, annoying character.

It's doesn't help that in The Glades from Season 2 on she's just a whining cow with a boring life getting in the way of solving crimes!

Cow is unwarranted. The rest, I may not agree, but you know, whatever, opinions.

If the characters of Family Guy made up a song for Longmire, it would go like this:
What else but Longmire,
It's Longmire, Longmire,
It's a really, really good show for you and me.
It's Longmire, Longmire,
Giggity, Giggity, Giggity, it's on A&E.
