  • Waugh meets Wodehouse.

    8.5
A very unusual episode, with two very different Peter Wimseys. On the one hand we have Wimsey undercover as Bredon in the ad agency. Acting like a character out of PG Wodehouse's world he sometimes only seems a slight exaggeration of the buffoon he can already be as the Carmichael version of Lord Peter.

The really interesting parts are the scenes where Wimsey interacts with a number of bright young things that appear to have stepped out of an Evelyn Waugh novel. His success at getting information from them is the result of him taking on a special persona. This harlequin character is at times hard to accept as Wimsey in disguise. When was it ever made clear that Lord Peter could do dangerous stunts like he did on the fountain? The scenes in the forest at night become positively surreal and unlike anything else seen in this or the previous serials.moreless
