    An elderly brother and sister, General Fentiman and Lady Dormer, appear to die on the same day. Initially, Wimsey has to work out the exact time of the deaths, as Lady Dormer's large fortune hangs on the question of who died first. Miss Anna Dorland, and not the General's heirs, will get it if old Lady Dormer outlived her brother by an instant. In seeking to establish the facts of the General's death at the Bellona Club, Wimsey concludes that they do not add up - there is a murderer to be found.
