  • Three priests compare notes to find they had been swindled by a very clever actress. Loretta Young plays not one part but four in this funny, charming, and poignant episode.

South American Uncle is very entertaining and unusually funny for this series. Loretta Young shows her talent playing a poor Irish lady, a society soon-to-be divorcee, and a drunken homeless bum all in dire need of a little cash. When three priests discover all their recent stories involve a South American uncle, they confront the real character, Alma (also played by Loretta), and offer to help her put her talents to work. The cuckoo clock going off over Alma's head as she "performs" each of her scheming characters adds to the humor. Alma finally confronts her fear of failure by helping direct the church children's play about a lost sheep. It really surprises me to find it is not on the list of Top Episodes. I thoroughly enjoyed this episode.
