Season 2 had a rough start:
The premiere was great, but the first couple of episodes simply weren't on par with the last few episodes of season 1.
Everybody Hates Hugo is the 2nd filler episode up to this point: out of the 4 episodes, 2 fillers, especially at the beginning of the season is a bad ratio. Very bad.
This particular episode is Hurley centric in which we learn how the lottery affected his relationship with his best friend.
Kinda good flashback story, but nothing about the numbers, or anything revealant to the island.
On the island, he's the one who has to take care of the food in the hatch, however, he can't handle the responsibility, so he decides to blow the food up with the dynamite.
Of course, that doesn't happen, so he just simply hands out all the food. The episode had some Sawyer/Jin/Michael moments: they were clearly the bright spots of the episode.
The ending montage was great, with Bernard finding out Rose is still alive.
Overally very calm episode with minimal plot progression.
