most of you know this deep down, but you want to look more into whatever and disregard it.

the reason he was thought of as special, was because he was a kid. children were very rare on the island. anything else, was production team swerves like with any other television secret.

Maybe your right but I've always thought he was special because of some kind of quick learning ability. It only took Walt one or two episodes to learn John's throwing knife technique. Now I'm not saying no one else can do it quicker but it just seemed like the technique came natural to him. Like he wasn't having difficulties learning it or whatever, he just sort of picked it up. Also he pretty much learned how to play the game with the black and white pieces almost instantly and almost beat Locke at it too.

Well they did a good job at that because the same type of bird he happened to be reading about crashed into his window
and he somehow made an astral projection of himself with Shannon when he was long since off the island.

So are you saying he is psychic or something?

That's what they basically insinuated on the show, plus they also had him having a dream about Locke being back on the island in a suit with people wanting to hurt him (Which described the exact same scene with Flocke, Ben and Caesar).

They also had Walt reading a comic book with a killer polar bear and later in the episode guess what? The polar bear. Also, his step-father was creeped out by Walt who must have been exhibiting some other examples of supernatural behavior. Yes, they did set up Walt as being someone special and important to the island, but in the end, it seems as if he was just a Lost "Red Shirt" (although he didn't die). Not even the others wanted him after they kidnapped him. If he had been so special they would have had a reason to keep him. It turns out he was just leverage for them to recruit Michael to kill a few people and spring Ben.

I don't see why everyone focuses on Walt? Because there were more than just him with special abilities. Hurley could see / talk to dead people. Miles could listen to the dead. Desmond could negate electromagnetic forces etc. So should questions be raised about them too?? Probably not, I don't really need an answer about why they were special, and what Walt's specific ability was, just that it is possible and not an isolated case.

Walt could manifest himself on the island while not being there, kill birds, and talk to michael on the dharma computer. The others made it very clear he was special. They asked Michael "if he ever appeared somewhere he wasnt supposed to be." Theres something more to him, and for the writers to claim there isn't is just a flat out lie.
