Here is my personal list of what makes Benjamin Linus an interesting character on LOST. Feel free to add your own comments below:

    1. He is slightly better looking than Ben the rat. (emphasis on the "slightly").

    2. His buggy eyeballs would make him a natural in any alien invasion movie.

    3. His dark nature probably attracts a lot of Goths and Emo's.

    4. His physical endurance, (being the island's punching bag) would make any pro boxer jealous.

    5. His personal philosophy of "Deceive, or be deceived" is the con man's motto.

    6. His love life failure rate probably helps a lot of shy, pimply-faced teenage boys to identify with him.

    7. His expertise at manipulation is carefully studied by all would-be dictators, and is included in the manual "How To Subjugate An Entire Nation In Five Easy Steps".

    8. His skill as a poet is carefully studied in literary circles.

    9. He auditioned for a part in the remake of "One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest", but the directors became alarmed when they realized that he wasn't acting.

    10. If evil has a name and a face, it is Benjamin Linus.

Actually, that was an extracurricular project that he did for his chemistry class. I think he got an A+.

It may have been better if you had taken that issue to him in a private message. We really don't want to get an avatar war started in this thread, do we?

Yeah, but you didn't add to the list of Ben's "wonderful" traits.

Can't add much to your 10!
    But I'll say this!

    Ben!
    A wolf in sheep's clothing!
    No!
End of the world in sheep's clothing!

And if you ever had to play him in a life and death game of cards,
you might as well forget it!

He could have blank cards and still bluff you into nonexistence!

That is so weird. I just thought of something that Jesus said, which, in a twisted way, we can apply to Ben. Jesus said:

"And other sheep I have, which are not of this fold: them also I must bring, and they shall hear my voice; and there shall be one fold, and one shepherd." (John 10:16, KJV).

In a way, there are two folds on the island; the Survivors, and the Others. Ben is a false shepherd, and he has his other fold, his other sheep, the Others, who blindly follow his lead.

His razor-sharp wit earns admiration from fans and foes alike.

He always hits what he's aiming at, but that doesn't mean that his target dies.

    12. He knows how to create doubt in our minds, just like the serpent did in the garden of Eden. The way he elaborates things always make you wonder: "Ben is saying something true. Or is he? He's right, I sense the rescue will masacre many of them. Or not?"

Sorry, now re-reading it, I guess it fall into the manipulation already mentioned. False alarm.

That is true! He gets the most possible amount of profite of every possible situation. When you think he's in big trouble, he says "I'm exactactly where I wanted to be." And I don't think he's saying that simply to piss Locke off, that is just a plus.

    A false shepherd indeed!
I know they are different shows
    but Frank Black/Scully/Mulder
would have a field day trying to
pick the mind of someone like Ben!

Whoah . . . Now that would make for a very interesting hybrid show . . . mixing LOST, Millennium and the X-Files. It would probably be at the top of the ratings . . . although I don't think that Ben Linus and the Cigarette Smoking Man would like each other very much. They'd both be competing to be the worst villain.
