Love Hurts

Show Summary

Tessa Piggott is changing her life... drastically. At 41, she is single, a successful high-flyer, and tired of being the boss's mistress. She gives up her highly-paid PR job and her interior-designed flat to become director of a small Third World charity. Determined to devote herself to a new career, she resolves to keep away from men, relationships and the trouble they cause. That is until she meets the charming Frank Carver... divorced ex-plumber and now a millionaire entrepreneur. A hugely popular comedy-drama from successful writing partnership, Marks and Gran. ======================== Release dates UK -- 3 January 1992 ================== Runtime: UK:50 min (30 episodes) Country: UK Language: English Color: Color Certification: Australia:PG ===================== Production Companies * British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) ====================== Awards: BAFTA Awards 1993 -- Nominated -- Best Actress -- Zoë Wanamaker 1993 -- Nominated -- Best Original Television Music -- Alan Hawkshaw =============================== Crew: Directed by Roger Bamford Guy Slater Carol Wiseman Writing credits (in alphabetical order) Johnny Byrne writer Barbara Cox Maurice Gran creator Laurence Marks creator Original Music by Alan Hawkshaw Cinematography by Brian Morgan Film Editing by Jake Bernard Graham Walker Casting by Susie Parriss Production Design by Steve Groves Kenneth Sharp Costume Design by Christine Rawlins Makeup Department Margaret Palphramand .... makeup artist Second Unit Director or Assistant Director James Gibb .... assistant director Art Department Robin Heinson .... painter Sound Department Alistair Crocker .... sound recordist (season 2) Philip Meehan .... sound effects editor John Rodda .... sound Other crew Daryl Bristow .... wardrobe supervisor Nimi Getter .... gaffer Ofer Margolin .... electrician: Israel Peter Polycarpou .... singer: title song Yehuda Sar-Israel .... second assistant camera Sarah Teboul .... assistant accountant Alexander Yurchikov .... assistant location manager: Russia

  • Chemistry between Faith and Wanamaker is one of the more underappreciated love stories in TV history.

Yes, we definitely must start and end everything with Faith (Frank) and Wanamaker (Tess) because this show really is a love story, a long, honest, complicated, learning love story. Apparently, that was never enough for a strong show and I won't deny that to be necessarily so. However, if you have enough patience to sit through mountains of crap on TV that get rave reviews because an airplane explodes or someone flatulates, this is not a show for you anyway. I watched it a long time ago on TV and decades later, it stuck with me enough to search for it again and find it, although enveloped in obscurity. It is simply a show of feelings, whether scorning, loving or everything in between, but never lack of them. The rest of the cast (except Jame Lapotaire) is basically there for support, but these two, especially the tremendously gifted Wanamaker, are simply excellent and have been given scripts for two seasons of heartbreak and elation - and that's all I need when I put one of the episodes on on a frosty evening...moreless
