Love on a Saturday Night

Show Summary

In 2003 the hit show Blind Date was ended due to Cilla Black wanting to retire from presenting. However, ITV bosses did not want to carry the show on even though it was a hit. The reason for not carrying it on was that Cilla became the biggest face and had the highest profile on the show. The original plans were just to axe the show all together. They tried replacing the classic love show but the replacement floppedand ratings did not rise. So Blind Date was to return under a different name and a new look and this was when Love on a Saturday Night was born and the new cupid was to be.. the one and only Davina McCall! The show still had the same theme of choosing a partner without seeing what they look like, just the personality. The approach to this was slightly different. Each week, a male or a female (alternate weeks) would take 3 members of the opposite sex out who wore masks. And Davina would also pick members of the studio audience to be matchmade. The show basically proudced many couples each Saturday. The show proved to be better than its predecessor and was a hit so much that it was relaunched for series 2 just 6 weeks after series 1 ended! This series introduced Johnathan Wilkes who was the on the spot reporter. But in May 2004 with Big Brother to soon make its return, Davina had to quit the show for the time being having been at Pinewood Studios to host the channel 4 show when she would of had rehearsals. So the show had to make a dramatic exit and the future of the show is still unknown.moreless
