  • I'm a sucker for English TV shows

They seem to have it all over American shows in general, and this one in particular. A

loveable scamp for a lead character (who is more appealing than he was in the books) , eccentric supporting characters (ditto), strong plots, and good stories.

    Plus the occasional antiques lesson!

"Lovejoy" is a fine example of British TV, and it's a shame it's ended production.

    • Eric: (as Lovejoy groans from a head wound) Hey, you know those stitches? I reckon they were put in by a student, because I've seen better needle work on a sunday joint.
      Lovejoy: Shut up, Eric!

    • (Eric starts barking like a dog as Lovejoy approaches)
Lovejoy: Ah, Eric! You lunatic, shut up! What you still doing here?

    • Lovejoy: (to camera) Come on. It's a bronze I'm interested in. It's a lovely piece of work. Catalogue says "Victorian after landscape". Fine enough, except it isn't. Casing is brilliant, though, thin shell, beautiful. It's not often you see a fake better than the original.
