Lunar Legend Tsukihime

Show Summary

The ability to see the threads that bind everything and to be able to destroy anything just by severing it is known as the Mystic Eyes of Death Perception. Shiki has such a power, or would that be a curse that he must endure? Thankfully, he was given glasses that can seal this curse and he was finally able to live life normally...until now. When Shiki is strangely attracted to a woman and unwillingly kills her, his life takes a strange turn in that he didn't actually kill her... Afterall, it takes more than a simple cut to kill a vampire...

  • A great, great anime, no doubt about it. But requires serious patience.

    9.9
Good vampire animes are hard to come across, or so I've heard. This was the first one I watched and I have to say I absolutely loved it. The only reason it doesn't get a perfect 10 from me was because some parts I found a little boring. But that's it! The rest is amazing!

First of all, let me say that this anime requires brains and a lot of patience to watch. It racked my brain the whole time and left me confused as h*ll for most of the series (before they nicely cleared everything up in episode 11), and it took a lot of tolerence from me to get up to the point where the series really picks up (not telling when). I watched the whole thing in one night, most of the time getting irritated, but let me tell you, it was about 11pm and I was about to fall asleep when ALL OF A SUDDEN things pick up and I had to stay up 'till 1am finishing. So if any of you are wondering why people love this anime, just give it some time. I can promise you a satisfying ending.

So I don't really know what the point of this review is, but I just wanted to let people know how much I enjoyed this anime and how it's one of the most mind-bending, thought-provoking things I've seen in a while. Animes like this are hard to come by, and I think everyone should give it a chance.moreless
  • I used to be the editor for this, back when it was still Tvtome.com. The show is great. Short and full of story. Not much action, but thats okay... i enjoy slower paced shows once in awhile. recommended for fans of story, not just action.moreless

    Animation: 5/5

    Music: 5/5

    Story: 5/5

My only complaint is that this anime is just too darn short... I would have loved to see more of the main character and his friends. I would suggest checking this anime out if you enjoyed the horror aspect of shows like Witch Hunter Robin... Infact I often consider this anime to be like a kid sister to Witch Hunter Robin. This is one of the exceptions for vampire anime... usually they stink. Aside from Vampire Hunter D and Blood: The last vampire - can you honestly name a GOOD vampire anime? They are hard to come by.moreless
  • An anime that excels in a few areas, but isn't lackluster whatsoever.

    8.4
It seems like lately, the only good vampire movies or shows out there come in the form of anime. Hollywood destroyed, murdered, incinerated any faith in American vampire movies. That's including the Blade series. The second one was actually pretty good, I liked it, but the rest of the other vampire movies are pretty bad. That's why it's nice to have animes like Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust, Blood: The Last Vampire, and the name that doesn't have an English translation, Shingetsutan Tsukihime--unless I'm flat out wrong on this, one way or another. If you want to know something, it's probably the hardest anime name to memorize. But don't let its name get to you; this is one fine anime that deserves a look by everyone.

The first episode pulls us into a rather pyschological ride. The main character, Tohno, can magically see red lines that are embedded on everything that exists in the world. When he cuts these lines, they are cut clean as if sliced by a powerful swordsman in Rurouni Kenshin. During his childhood, he was given glasses that would filter these red lines. But years later, soon after Tohno moves in with his sister, he meets a mysterious person named Arcueid. For some reason, visions of him chasing her with his knife without his glasses started appearing in his head. Arcueid then claims he killed her not too long ago.

After what I just described, you're probably expecting something in the veins of Evangelion. You'll probably rewatch the first episode multiple times, yet you'll never get it. The story at first seems confusing as hell, but it starts making more sense as you progress with the show. It's a nice mystery that is just right. There's enough to keep you satisfied, but not too much to ruin the momentum. The pacing and atmosphere is what got me the most about Shingetsutan Tsukihime (by the way, what does its name mean anyway?). It never feels too dark like a horror movie, yet during daytime, it's never too cheery. It's amazing how the same mood can be maintained even through night and day. This anime also makes great use of the episode it's provided with. It never feels like it's being rushed; it just stays cool.

While there's nearly nothing wrong with Shingestutan Tsukihime, aside from its brilliant atmosphere, there's also really nothing excelling about it either. The characters are rather average, and their relationship is nothing too deep. The story pulls a few things in here, but the ending is pretty disappointing. However, the music is stellar that makes the atmosphere even more interesting, and the designs are solid. If you want a great anime that's nearly flawless, Shingetsutan Tsukihime is a great watch, especially for retro vampire movie fans.moreless
  • One of the unexpected classic that anime fans should have an intense desired to see.

    10
No word can describe the unbelievable, captivated Lunar Legend Tsukihime (a.k.a. Shingetsutan Tsukihime). It's absolutely beautiful and touching anime series. Full of fantasy, mysteries and lies, including the very emotional, complex, unique, and deep story line. Every aspects of this anime is purely fascinating. From the animation quality to the sound, everything is beyond "good".

The animation and artwork are very crisp and flawless, along with the beautiful backgrounds and special effects. The animation quality is particular better than regular anime series such as the famous Naruto. The usage of colors, lights and darks are exceptional interesting, which creates a world of its own.

Just like its animation quality, the sound doesn't lack. Lunar Legend Tsukihime provides two soothing, yet dark and unforgetable songs for the openings and the endings. Every music pieces seem to fit perfectly with the anime's atmosphere. Without any doubt, the voice acting is also high quality and suitable for each character's appearance and personality. (Note: Japanese version)

The best part of this anime is its memorial story line. With just only 12 episodes, this anime series covers up a nice, idealy everything it has to explained. It's very unique and deep that not many other anime series can compare. With an interesting openning episodes lead its later episodes into many unexpected plots twist. Nonetheless, there is no known for any filler-episode; every single episode can be extremely worthy for the plots as a whole. Although there are still holes within the story, but that part is for the viewers to use their imagination. The character developement is very well though out. Each character has his/her own unique distinct characteristic. However, without any spoilers, please refer to the main webspace of Lunar Legend Tsukihime for the summary of the story.

Despite the shortness of the anime, Lunar Legend Tsukihime can stand against other classics, such as Neon Genesis Evangelion or Elfen Lied. Therefore, it is one the animes that anime fans must collect and should be treasured.
