Now on the run for murder Luther seeks the help of Alice and Mark North to prove DCI Reed responsible for Zoe's death. Luther goes to extreme measures and wins the trust of DS Ripley who saves his life as a result of his loyalty. But all leads up to a part of Luther's plan to get a confession out of Reed about his murdering Zoe. Luther faces himself and his anger and has the strength to not kill Reed on the spot for what he's done with a difficult "I choose not to" but the police close in as Alice pulls the trigger in his stead and the future is unclear for Luther's guilt now that the real killer is dead. The fitting end to the series if Luther's saying of "now what?" hopefully this show will be back for another series as the characters have all come together is what could simply have been another cliche cop procedural Luther makes up for with Idris Elba's superior performance and all the nuances that a British cop show can bring to light by simply not being called CSI.
