I know that the ratings weren't good, but maybe, just MAYBE BBC will give it a go. Pretty please?

I want more. This was so good. The characters, the plot, the playing. I want more. 6 episodes are not enough. Pleas, pretty please, with an alice on top.

With two characters dead, two disliked(Mark, Rose), they have to bring in some new characters and pump it up for ratings. But I think it was great. Elba settled into the role after overplaying John at first.

Luther holds its own in comparison to respected UK crime series, like Cracker, Wire in the Blood, etc. I can understand that some viewers might consider Luther himself as overwrought, but consider what he is going through personally and professionally during the six episodes. After all, Helen Mirren completely loses her judgment and ends Prime Suspect's long run in disgrace. Luther DEFINITELY deserves a second season. In the US, idiotic shows like CSI Miami, with their brainless dialogue and passionless acting, go on year after year because there are pretty people in the show. Luther, come BACK!

Wow. I just finished watching the series, and it was awesome. Especially episode 5 to 6; I sometimes try to space episodes out, even when I have all the episodes, to sort of recreate the weekly wait atmosphere. But at the end of 5 I just couldn't handle it and jumped right into 6. I would love a second season. But I think it ended on a suitable note enough for me. Similar to Strike Back's cliffhanger ending.

Does BBC treat the renewal of shows the same way as the networks do in the States?

Luther HAS been renewed for a second series. YEAH!

The ratings started out excellent, dipped in the middle, and went back up at the end, but weren't as bad as some make them out to be. It was actually one of the most watched BBC premieres ever from what I heard...

Yes, it has changed time format to two 2 hour mini series. So in retrospect a total of four hours which is such a shame as Luther is so much more than you usual cop show. The problem is people just don't invest the time necessary to realize this. Viewers put the show on watch a few minutes and assume it's more of the same (ie: generic cop show) but it is one of the best psychological drama's since Se7en.

Interesting change but while I'm disappointed that it looks to be shortened, I'm glad there's at least more of it to see still

In 2.2 Alice pointed notable duos but unfortunately did not and should have included Barbara Crampton and Kathleen Kinmont from Fraternity Vacation.
