I'm pretty well not enthused by this idea, but maybe because I feel so burned by NBC ruining the legacies of two other shows I edit with their ill-conceived 're-imaginings'.

If the movie has a good storyline I don't see why it wouldn't be good. This show is one of the few to be passed on to other generations. Even the word MacGyverism is part of today's culture.

This movie needs a good story that involves Richard Dean Anderson and Michael des barres.

I love the show and need to get the seventh season to complete the series. I love Richard Dean Anderson, (I love him in Stargate SG-1 as well) and i was excited to hear that there might be a movie. But to be honest if RDA isn't in the movie playing the role of MacGyver, then I'm not going to bother to watch it. He's MacGyver! To me it wouldn't be the same without him.

To be fair, RDA is 58, so expecting him to play MacGyver is pretty much wishful thinking, I'm sure.

He's 58 but I think he's still in a very good shape. Who else could play him? I don't see anyone else play MacGyver.

    But we'll have to see.

If anything, maybe he could play Pete Thornton if he can't play MacGyver.

EDIT: Personally, I think he'd be one of the only people who could do the role justice since Dana Elcar and Don S. Davis are no longer with us. (Don S. Davis was Dana Elcar's body double in MacGyver and General George Hammond in Stargate SG-1 for those of you who don't know)

Unfortunately it's too late for a MacGyver movie. I mean RDA is too old for the part and he's the only MacGyver, no one else can play the role...

Too bad there never was any more interest in this project. There is a "MacGyver movie trailer" at YouTube from about the same time as this talk of a possible movie a year ago. You can copy and paste this into your browser if you'd like to see it (no non-tv.com links allowed) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hWUf8DJJxg8&NR=1 It's really more of a look at how MacGyver is mythic in popular culture. It's got the Simpsons clips, movie clips, and even Mythbusters, oh yeah that 'McGruber' guy, who BY THE WAY is putting out his own movie?!

I'd so much rather see a MacGyver movie than a MacGruber movie, but the legend lives. You can get the "official" MacGruber movie preview at YouTube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Unz2pY4yP90&feature=fvw Can't believe VAL KILMER plays the bad terrorist and RYAN PHILLIPE is in it!

Guess it's as close to a MacGyver movie as we'll get. Will you watch it? Release date April 23, 2010.

And he played Dana Scully's father in the X-files.

What? Too old? And Harrison Ford still plays Indiana Jones? And Dennis Quaid plays and bodyguard in Vantage Point?

RDA is in very good shape and he can still play an action character.

    Come one MacGyver!

Actually, the movie must have gotten delayed. The "official" release date is MAY 21, 2010 and the OFFICIAL website is http://iamrogue.com/macgruber/ (You can copy and paste this into your address bar)

But a MacGruber movie, while loosely based on the MacGyver character is vearing a little off topic. See me over in the MacGruber forum and let me know if you will be going to see "the ultimate tool" haha!
