  • More entertaining Jack Dalton fare, but the execution of this episode didn't floor me as much as most third season episodes did.

    7.7
Returning on leap year day 1988 after the Winter Olympics, MacGyver and Jack Dalton embarked on another globe-trotting adventure that entertained, but at least in my opinion, didn't stack up among the best episodes of the season. The double-cross involving the jewel heist was cleverly crafted, and Pete's outrage as Mac's latest debacle with Dalton was hilarious, but the episode lost some of its energy in the second half. There was nothing particularly worthy of criticism in the second half (other than the usual silliness of "locking MacGyver up" for a few hours before following through with plans to kill him) and Pete's infiltration of the jewel auction was amusing and suspenseful, but I didn't walk away from this episode as blown away as I usually did at this stage of the series. I continue to harbor the same feelings about this episode which would have been extremely solid by the standards of your average 80's crimefighter series but doesn't stand out in the crowd by MacGyver standards.moreless

    • Max: It might be difficult.
      Jack: Money's no object.
      Pete: Jack!
Max: In that case, two of them have already checked out of their hotels.
Pete: You didn't tell me that.
Max: You didn't mention that money was no object.

    • Jack: Here they come. I anticipate champagne, flashbulbs, and with any luck, local beauty queens panting after my highly-trained pilot's body.

    • Jack: Welcome home!
      MacGyver: No.
Jack: Ah, the man's overcome with emotion.
      MacGyver: No, just overcome.

    • Pete: We've got to sneak in.
Jack: Disguised as what, Mother Teresa and a leper?

    • Pete: Jack, having you as a friend is a little bit like owning a pet disease.
Jack: Why, Pete, old pal, are you trying to hint you're upset?

    • MacGyver: Maybe we should consider a different way out.
Leann: That door is steel. It is cross-braced and double-locked.
MacGyver: I never said it was going to be easy.

    • Leann: I believe in honesty. At least, when I'm contemplating my own death.

    • MacGyver: Looks like at least two armed guards on duty.
Jack: Okay... so I guess knockin' on the front door is out.

    • MacGyver: We're officially crooks until we square with the police. Which means we should get a line on those jewels.
Jack: MacGyver, we're wanted criminals; we just broke out of a torture chamber by slugging an inspector of police and the head of security for the richest woman in the universe.
MacGyver: We've got no choice. Either we're innocent—or we're dead.

    • MacGyver: My grandfather used to say, "if you're afraid of the answer, don't ask the question."

    • Elena: You would probably give them to a campaign for hunger.
      MacGyver: Yeah.
Elena: And save a few lives for what, six months, a year? Until they breed more starving children and the money runs out, and then what?
MacGyver: Then you'd have bought another year. You can do a lot in a year.

    • Elena: Dalton told me about you. Apparently you would rather give $32 million to medial research.
MacGyver: Yeah... but then that's probably why you own the plane, and I'm just flying it.

    • Jack: The plane's there. We're signed up.
MacGyver: What about her flight crew?
Jack: Lost. Strayed. Stolen. Who cares?

    • Jack: I just taped over some old movie.
      MacGyver: My classic western collection!

    • MacGyver: Jack, the answer is no: no rescue missions, no buried treasure, no sunken gold, no oil wells. No!

    • MacGyver: Three and a half weeks, two continents, five countries, one island, about nine thousand miles, and I was wasted. Right now, I was looking forward to miles and miles of nothing happening—except sleep.
