When Pete discovers that Murdoc broke into MacGyver's houseboat he phones the Phoenix Foundation and instructs them to call the "DSX," actually meaning "DXS".
MacGyver: Come on, Nikki. Where's your spirit of adventure?
Nikki: I left it back at Pete's cabin.
Nikki: Mines? He carries around mines with him? How on earth did you get mixed up with this guy?
MacGyver: Wrong place, wrong time... It's a long story.
Nikki: What are you doing? I told you I'm not climbing out.
MacGyver: I heard you. (ties up a rope around Nikki's waist) This will keep you from rolling off the ledge. If you happen to fall asleep tonight.
Nikki: Tonight? MacGvyer, you are not going to leave me here.
MacGyver: Ah, I'll be back with the chopper in the morning.
Nikki: (upset) One minute you can't even look down the mountain and the minute you're a mountain goat.
(MacGyver stares at her. She angrily grabs the rope and looks at him)
Nikki: I'm glad that you're back among the living, really, I am. I only wish you could do it with a little balance. These extreme changes are not good.
MacGyver: I'll work on it.
Nikki: (after seeing Mike's ripped harness) So that's what happened, isn't it, MacGyver?
MacGyver: (thoughtful) Something like that.
Nikki: So it wasn't your fault.
MacGyver: Is that all I have to tell myself?
Nikki: No. More. The truth. You were her friend, you did all that you could do.
MacGyver: Wasn't enough, was it?
Nikki: MacGyver, you can't bring her back. Even if you could relive the moment, Mike still would've had fallen. Please come back to the present.
Nikki: Mike was the expert climber, not you. Mike made the mistake, not you.
MacGyver: You don't understand.
Nikki: No, I don't. I don't understand how you can go on blaming yourself. You didn't push her, did you?
MacGyver: (upset) Yes! Yes, I did. I pushed her away when she needed something from me. I hurt her, and she fell.
Nikki: And there wasn't anything you could do to save her, was there?
MacGyver: It's not as simple as that.
MacGyver: How'd you find me?
Nikki: Pete.
MacGyver: I told him to leave me alone.
Nikki: And he has.
MacGyver: So what are you doing here?
Nikki: Trying to help.
MacGyver: Don't need any.
Nikki: Maybe somebody else should try.
Pete: Nikki, I've known MacGyver for 8 years. I don't think I know anybody close enough to get through to him right now.
Nikki: Pete, is it possible that you're too close?
Pete: What do you mean by that?
Nikki: Well, maybe what he needs is someone that he doesn't know so well. Someone that he can open up to.
Pete: Someone like you maybe? (Nikki stares at him) Nikki, you and MacGyver have never agreed on anything.
Nikki: Yeah, that's true, but I was just thinking...
Pete: You're really worried about him, aren't you?
Nikki: Well, just like you said, no smile, no light behind the eyes. Somebody's gotta try.
MacGyver: "What are you doing up here?" he asked himself. "Don't you remember, you hate heights? Or is it that heights hate you?" I could never figure out which was which, but either way I was determined that today I was going to overcome it all. I had a sizable rockface called The Widowmaker to climb and an expert to show me how to do it—wishful thinking. (slips and plummets until rope stops him)
Nikki: This is serious, huh?
Pete: Yeah, it's serious. MacGyver is running. The funny thing about running is, you always end up taking yourself with you.
Nikki: I saw that maniac at Ellard's store.
MacGyver: That's Murdoc. He's not your normal professional killer.
Nikki: There's no place else to run.
MacGyver: Yes, there is—up.
Nikki: What can I do to help?
MacGyver: Cross your fingers.
MacGyver: There's an old climbers' saying. "It's not the fall that kills you, it's the sudden stop."
MacGyver Look, I don't want you here! I don't need you, I can take of myself!
Nikki: (laughs) You sure know how to make a girl feel welcome, don't you?
MacGyver You invited yourself!
Nikki: I came because I care about you, you jerk. Now, MacGvyer, we are friends, aren't we?
MacGyver Spare yourself, friends of mine are ending up getting hurt.
Nikki: (sighs) I'd sure like to see you scrub some of that self-pity off along with the rest of the dirt. To hear you talk it's as if you pushed Mike off the mountain.
MacGyver Hey, you know nothing about it!
Nikki: That's why I came here. Tell me about it.
Mike: All those women in your life and you never learned a thing, did you?
