When MacGyver starts using his makeshift flamethrower, his position changes from on the wall next to the gate, to atop the gate, to back on the wall again, and then onto the gate, as the camera cuts back and forth.
In the opening gambit, MacGyver covers the rope with kerosene, splashing some on his hands. Then later he climbs down the kerosene-covered rope. At the bottom, he lights the rope on fire and the flames cover his left hand momentarily, and yet the kerosene doesn't set him on fire.
Trumbo: We're out of gasoline, and we're out of miracles.
MacGyver: So now's the time to start thinking.
MacGyver: Well, I don't know how good ants are at swimming, but I'd be willing to bet a good fire would get their attention.
Trumbo: I don't waste time on the impossible.
MacGyver: Ah, what a life I lead. Riding the rapids in the Pyrenees Mountains one day, and the next crossing half the world to help out a friend with a very weird problem in a very strange part of the Amazon. I think I should get an unlisted phone number.
MacGyver: That's when I usually get a call; when somebody's in trouble and needs some rescuing.
Alternate episode title: "White Water"
The Brazilian footage of ants and many of the plantation shots are taken from the 1954 movie, The Naked Jungle.
The German episode title is "Der Ameisenkrieg", meaning "Ant War".
This is the first of David Ackroyd's two, unrelated appearances on MacGyver. He can also be seen in season three's "The Negotiator".
