In a teaser scene that has more connection with the episode plot than meets the eye, neither Paul nor Jamie can find the remote. So they consent to watch a show that neither cares for, for lack of ambition to get up and change the channel.
The problem is that neither of them clean house. When Jamie loses a lucky sock, she decides it's time to hire a maid - and then tell Paul. The maid was to come in once a week to straighten up.
The maid was the Devanow maid, Masha, whom Fran describes as "a cleaning machine." The presence of a maid exposes the cleaning talents of both Paul and Jamie. Jamie vacuums in anticipation, as Paul tells her "I've never seen you do that before." That particular day, Paul's shoot got rained out, so he stayed home and helped Masha clean.
Jamie is impressed that Paul would help Masha clean, but not help her. Masha develops a crush on Paul, paints a portrait of him, and becomes useless to the Devanows when Paul and Jamie crush Masha's hopes with Paul.
A later visit to Masha at the Devanows perks Masha up. A coda scene shows Murray stealing Jamie's socks one by one, ultimately for the purpose of creating a bed for Murray.
