The Devanow's destination of New Rochelle, New York is the same suburb where the Petries lived in The Dick van Dyke Show.
Paul: How do you think that I felt? Having to watch the two of you perform the entire score of The Music Man? And I'll tell you something, babe. 'Seventy-Six Trombones' was not written for the cello!
Jamie: Says who?
Paul: The title.
Conductor: Have a Hap-py Ho-li-day!
Paul: Easy for you to say.
Conductor: It's my jo-b...
Paul: What was that?
Jamie: Nothing. Just told her we needed some private time since we were going up for your mother's funeral. Always works.
Paul: Why is it my mother?
Jamie: I don't know, I wanted the leg-room, I had to kill somebody, she came to mind.
Jamie runs into Hap Evans, who she was engaged to for a couple of months while in high school; she had broken the engagement at the Thanksgiving Dance of 1979 when she caught Hap flirting with Marcia Dixon.
Jamie is seen reading "Surrender the Pink" by Carrie Fisher.
A Cello solo of 76 Trombones plays over the end credits rather than the usual music - a tribute to the fact that it is revealed in this episode that Jamie used to play the cello (and is considering playing again).
