Jamie lands an account for a travel promo for New York City, and chooses Paul to direct it. Though Paul thoroughly objects - for a travel promo is outside his genre - he agrees for the sake of marital civility. Besides, his own business was slow, and he was reduced to watching daytime soaps anyway.
There were clearly issues to work around. For instance, Jamie and Paul had different attitudes about the client's lateness to the meeting: Paul observed it was past the agreed time; but Jamie observed that the client sets the timetable. Paul thought that he and Jamie should have a code word, like "paramecium" or "Estes Keefauer," though they never really said what the code word would indicate. Also, with Jamie and Paul working together, there were tensions regarding displaying their marriage relationship at the filming.
And then there was the issue of artistic control. When an apple appeared to be "the big apple," Paul objected on the grounds that he was not using surreality. But Al insisted there must be a big apple, and the apple balked at being set in the background. Jamie reasoned that Paul had complete artistic control, except when it conflicts with Al's artistic control.
The promotion was completed, and earned a "great." Al attempted to contract Jamie's firm using Paul for another five promos. But Jamie objected. Though she liked having her husband around full time, she also missed the experience of reuniting at the end of the day.
