Nolan and Martina take the case of Ed Koneke, whose young daughter became sick from carbon ethylene in the groundwater. A subsequent class action lawsuit against a local chemical plant is going nowhere and Ed can no longer afford the medical bills. But when Ed takes an off-hand remark by Martina literally and punches the chemical company's CEO in the face, he finds himself on trial for assault while Martina is called as a witness for the prosecution.

Jessica Barnes, the daughter of wealthy parents, enters rehab for drug abuse. While there, she turns 18 and, against doctor's orders, leaves to join a farming commune. She also begins to withdraw large sums of money from her six-figure trust fund, giving it to the farm's leader. Stark & Rowan intervene to end the flow of funds and to get her out of the commune. Meanwhile, Martina confronts Tommy about rumors that he helped her get her job.

Nolan and Martina represent Eric Jenkins, a successful night-club owner who is accused of killing his friend and business partner, Tim Larken. Meanwhile, Cyndi asks Martina to run interference and keep Riley away from her birthday party so that Riley does not discover that Cyndi is dating her recent ex-boyfriend.

Donovan and Nolan ask Martina, an avid and knowledgeable football fan, to help the firm secure a new client. Doug Hartsock, a promising high school quarterback, lost his chance at a pro career due to multiple concussions. His coaches may have ignored his injuries and thus could be culpable in the loss of Doug's career. Meanwhile, a problem in Accounting at Stark & Rowan delays Martina's first paycheck.

Donovan assigns Martina and Nolan the case of Penelope Hewett, who is acting as a surrogate mother for her sister, Emma. Emma is in a coma due to a recent domestic accident and her husband, Mason, has designs of taking the soon to be born child to Paris. On the home front Martina helps her sister, Deb, who is falsely accusing the neighbors of removing a tree in her family's back yard.
