For Valentine's Day, Miss Clavel has worked out a system where everybody draws paper slips to determine who they will give a special Valentine's Day present to. Madeline draws Genevieve and by sheer luck, Genevieve happens to draw Madeline. Madeline goes out and buys Genevieve a nice bone. Genevieve searches all over the house and then the yard for something nice to get for Madeline, but comes up empty. Then, she encounters a dog named Popo. The two of them hit it off and together go on a romantic romp throughout the town. When it comes Valentine's Day, everyone has fun exchanging their gifts, but Madeline soon realizes that something is wrong: Genevieve isn't around. They can't find her and start to get worried, but Miss Clavel promises that if Genevieve hasn't shown up by the morning, they'll go out and search for her. They do and hear of the adventures of Genevieve and Popo, but refuse to believe them, until finally they are faced with undeniable photographic evidence. They return to the house in vines, where Madeline, very upset, throws her present for Genevieve into the trash. She's very upset with Genevieve, but that night, she dreams of some of the nice things which Genevieve has done for her in the past and realizes that she can't remain upset. The next day, she retrieves the present from the trash, just before it was about be taken away. Then, to Madeline's delight, Genevieve shows up. Happy to see her, Madeline gives her the bone. Genevieve wants to return the favor now and so she presents Madeline with a perfume bottle that was given to her by Popo. The two return to the house, where Genevieve is cleaned up and then settles down for a nap. Later, Popo comes to the house and Genevieve makes a beeline for the door to meet him. Also outside are Lord Cucuface and an awful lady called Madame Toilette. She says that she's come to inspect the house for hygiene and starts with Genevieve. Worse, she then identifies the perfume bottle as belonging to her and accuses Genevieve of stealing it. In the end, it's Popo that's sent off to the pound, since he was the one had given it to Genevieve. Genevieve can't bear it and won't eat or sleep. One of the girls says that if Genevieve doesn't love them anymore, then maybe they shouldn't love Genevieve, but Miss Clavel sings a song about love and fixes that all up. They go back to the pound and Popo is given a chance to prove his innocence. He leads everyone to a spot where he starts digging for a long time and just when Madame Toilette is starting to get really annoyed, he ends up finding a bunch of other stuff that was stolen from her. It turns out that he used his excellent sense of smell to track it down. Popo ends up becoming a celebrity and taken in by a man who trains dogs for search and rescue missions. Genevieve, however, is still upset, as Madeline is left without a Valentine's Day gift. So she, Popo and some other local dogs gather together and put on a serenade for her.moreless
