This season was a little harder to watch. Not because it was written poorly or the animation was bad, because it wasn't. It was harder to watch because of Mahoro's dwindling days left remaining alive. The Christmas, New Years, and Valentie's Day episodes were the hardest to watch.
It really is a tearjerker but, it is also funny and an endearing series.
The ending can be a little confusing. *** SPOILER ALERT ***
20 years after Mahoro dies, Matthew, the controlling inteligence of Saint, decides to leave earth we see that it resembles Mahoro. It recreates Mahoro with all the memories she, Mahoro, had (there was a connection that was alluded to in an earlier episode). This Mahoro is created on a human colony planet that Suguru is on. Suguru, now 33 years old, has become a Management android hunter. He gets injured and, while waiting for a doctor to open shop, is eating at a noodle stand. Mahoro finds him; he thinks she is the Grim Reaper, talking to the noodle shop owner about how he doesn't like to think about his time on Earth. When he realises that it really is Mahoro, she says, "Let's go home". Then Suguru turns into what he looked like at 14 and there is a "flashback" of all the characters when they were younger talking about things. The last scene is Mahoro and Suguru, once again 33, standing arm-in-arm at the end of an alley.moreless
