    "Good"
One of the most famous Maigret novels, "La Tete D'Un Homme" (sometimes called "A Battle Of Nerves" in English), this story of a ruthless man with no human sympathy whatever presents Maigret with one of his most devious opponents. Alas, the adaptation fails to make the most of the story, and Anton Rodgers, cast against type, is lacking the kind of horrid charisma that this villain needs. But the unfolding of the plot, as Radek attempts to implicate a wholly innocent man in his crime out of sheer sadism, holds the attention; it is Maigret's humanity that brings Radek down. The same story was filmed in France in 1934 with Harry Baur as Maigret, and by Hollywood in 1949, with Charles Laughton, under the title "The Man On The Eiffel Tower".moreless
