  • Maigret seems to be on holiday on the French island of Porquerolles, in the Mediterranean, but he is really looking into a local murder.

    The murdered man was a sleazy fellow, all right - not just the boorish drunk everyone on the island knew, but a thief and a pimp as well. But why should such a low-life boast of his friendship with the famous Inspector Maigret - especially as Maigret had, in reality, never heard of him? This unsought personal involvement in a murder so far from his usual beat leads to an investigation which is disguised as a vacation, and Maigret soon finds the island is full of seemingly respectable people with good reasons to want the old thug dead. In the supporting cast, one finds, surprisingly, the radio disc-jockey and TV presenter, Pete Murray; this return to his former profession of acting was a short-lived one.moreless
