Whatever happened to the sexy and talented Andree Melly, younger sister of singer and writer George Melly and a formidable talent in her own right? She did a lot of work in TV, radio and films (notably as a vampire in "The Brides Of Dracula") in the late 50s and early 60s, but then she seemed to vanish. Her very lively and stylish performance in the title role of this episode lives on in the memory after all these years. Unlike the 1992 remake with Michael Gambon, this version of the story avoids hinting that Maigret may once have had an affair with the burglar's wife. Rightly so, too - Maigret was a solidly uxorious fellow, it was his creator, Simenon, who was the womaniser.moreless
