  • Payson has 'fun' in high school, Emily can't stop reading about herself on blogs, and Kaylie and Nicky get heated on the mats

So I was expecting the episode to be a little bit more exciting but it was good for the most part. I'll be honest, I am always hopeful to see at least one of Emily's suitors/Damon the boyfriend but of course this episode wasn't about love (next one is though!).

You can definitely see the set up for some Kaylicky (awful, awful combo name) especially with them making up near the end with Nicky acknowledging Kaylie's strengths and admitting that he was a bit of a jerk... guess Payson's out of the picture for this bull. And of course poor Carter gets drunk after seeing the Kaylicky duet and finds a sleeping Lauren in the attic/random room in the house... but Carter remains deeply in love with Kaylie and only takes Lauren's manipulative words at face value (gotta love the girl for keeping at it!)

Emily becomes distracted over negative comments on blogs, and eventually tells her story at the open house to inspire other underprivileged children… hopefully that'll be enough of a confidence booster for a while! I really want to see Emily triumph at the next competition and just be confident that she's an amazing gymnast. Seeing Payson in high school was interesting, but the supposed loner Ike doesn't seem like much of a loner since everyone knows him and he seems pretty popular… but just my personal take on that. I don't really want Payson to go and just be a normal high school girl cuz clearly she's not! I was really hoping that she'd go and coach the girls but I guess it's still too hard though seriously I do not want her to turn to drinking and drugs. I definitely feel like she's become really closed off with the other girls, and with the new Kaylicky development I don't see things going in a positive direction for Payson… She was pretty dry with Emily too, with the whole "No offense Emily, but you don't" line. Guess at the end of the day Emily's still a bit of a loner with the group

Overall good episode, looking forward to the next episode! Fake holidays are always fun!moreless

    • (Emily's reading a message board that is very critical of her gymnastics)
Emily: If I'm going to be a pro athlete I can't let this stuff get to me. I'm just not going to give it a second thought.

    • Nicky: I'm training, you're texting--unless speed-tweeting adds a new level of difficulty.
Kaylie: I was in a meeting with our agent.
Nicky: Right...imagine if you focused as much on improving yourself as you do selling yourself.

    • Emily: Today's her first day.
Kaylie: Yeah, I wonder how it's going...
Lauren: Well, let's see: she's been home-schooled since sixth grade, she has no friends, she's starting mid-year, and she's wearing a back brace...how do you think it's going?

    • Kim: Sometimes I think we let them get so medal-driven that they forget why they love gymnastics in the first place. Payson never forgot that. She always loved sharing her love of the sport.

    • Morgan: Look, ladies, I just got tumbling advice from a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle. What's next? A zombie's gonna tutor me in speech class?

    • Payson: What are you doing in the girl's PE class?
Ike: Cutting the boy's PE class. I'm not really a fan of dodgeball...or anything that involves hitting or throwing or catching a ball. I mean, what are we? Golden Retrievers?
Mrs. Cirelli: Mr. Benziger, you do not belong here.
Ike: Truer words were never spoken. (to Payson) You don't look like you belong here, either.

    • Sasha: Emily, if you think you need to prove them wrong, then it means you currently think they're right.

    • Emily: I was the new girl at three different schools before I was the new girl at The Rock. If it's any consolation, I know exactly what you're going through.
Payson: No offense, Emily, you don't. Being the new girl might suck, but at least you still have gymnastics. I don't have anything.

    • Chloe: Remember when I cocktailed in Vegas? I still have my eye patch and thigh-highs!
Emily: ...and I wonder why they call me "unrefined"...

    • Nicky: Why don't you just do your thing, and I'll do mine?
Kaylie: Yeah, that's what I call a "duet"...

    • (after Morgan's relentless bullying)
Payson: What did I do to deserve this?
Ike: Again, you're reading my mind! Yes, what did we do to deserve this..?

    • Payson: All I want is to be invisible.

    • Kaylie: I beat all the other best gymnasts in the country--why doesn't anyone think I would have beat Payson, too?!

    • Sasha: Find another dream.
      Payson: I'm done dreaming.

  • ALLUSIONS (1)

    • Sasha: Anyone? Anyone? Bueller?

Ferris Bueller is the name of the main character in Ferris Bueller's Day Off, a coming of age comedy made in the '80s by John Hughes starring Matthew Broderick. The scene with Sasha is an allusion to the scene with Ben Stein in history class where he is calling attendance and Bueller isn't there, so he keeps repeating his name.
