Make Room for Daddy

Season 11 Episode 28

The Persistent Cop

Aired Tuesday 9:00 PM Apr 27, 1964 on ABC

Episode Recap

When the band (Bob Denver and The Beau-Jives) visits his home, they are rude and disrespectful and Danny throws them out. The cop (Allen Melvin) begins a campaign to have Danny reconsider. ("I gave you a ticket because you were parked too close to the curb.") Danny visits the boys on their home turf and talks to them ("If you like living in a sewer, happy sewer to you.") . Shamed, the band revisits Danny, behaves and wows him with a show number, featuring a sax player who is picked up by his heels and swung in a circle while he plays. This was the final episode of the series.

Bob Denver was hired as a guest star because Danny was uncertain what kind of band he could get for the finale and what that would be. The band, a local band that played night clubs in Los Angeles, was hired subsequent to that after auditioning for Danny on the sound stage.
