Who was the Episode MVP ?

  • Francis is back!

A blackout occurs at the house. Francis is back, but he doesn't want anyone to know he's there or why. He really wants this fish that he caught to prove to a little kid that he has done something with his life. Malcolm has three Dutch girls with him and wants to have fun with them before they leave. He lies to Hal by calling and saying he's drunk and he needs them to pick him up. Hal has found the best beef around and Reese is in on it. He is cooking it up. Malcolm and Francis get caught. Dewey is angry that he can't choose his own dinner, so he drugs the whole family and eats cereal like he wanted with the three Dutch girls.

This was a great episode! I was so glad to see Francis finally back! It was a really cool way to portray this episode! I give this episode a 10!moreless
  • This episode was very good. And I loved it.

I like that episode. But The Goof About Francis First appering now is completly wrong. Francis Has been in almost every other episode, probobly more. And he first Appered in the First season on \\\"Red Dress\\\". And he has been in every season. So I think that who ever posted that should delete it because it is completely wrong. And I would know because I have seen almost every episode.
  • Shot in a very stylistic way where every second of all the characters is explained. Glad to finally see Francis return.

In short its summarizes why I love the show.Filled with one-liners that just kill.Like Lois explaining to Francis how Hal is a rigorous and challenging lover who goes about business like a skilled commander attacking a nation... or Malcolm with the Dutch girls with Reese being clueless what to do with them in the dark/or how to make babies. This show just gets better and better with time
  • This episode was about Francis returning home and knocking out the power in the entire house. The entire episode was in the dark as Malcolm tried to sneak in 3 girls, Reese tried to cover for him, Dewey was just complaing and Francis lied to Lois.moreless

This episode was very well written. It reminded me a lot like the bowling episode. This wasn\'t necessarily the funniest epiosde of Malcolm, but one of the best written. I especially loved how everything added up at the end. This is a episode of malcolm that will be rememebered. Excellent episode.
  • Francis!

This was an excellent episode. I love when shows do this sort of thing by showing the same sequence 3 times but from everyones point of view. As soon as I saw Francis I knew this episode would rock. His character has evolved so much from the beginning and I love to see what he\'s going to do next. I was almost worried that he wouldn\'t show up this season. Let\'s hope he continues his side story adventures like the many seasons before. It\'s also amazing to me that this show keeps all the little changes that happen to characters. For example, Reese being able to cook extremely well. Most shows would have made that a gimmick for the episode it happened in, like the simpsons getting a pool. But MITM keeps it running. I love it. Excellent episode like every other one this season.moreless

Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

  • TRIVIA (4)

    • This is only the second time we hear Jamie speak on the show when he says 'Francis'. The first time was 'shut up' when Lois wouldn't stop talking.

    • This episode has three different segments that take place while the house is blacked out, all having a relation to one another. They all come back together after the power returns.

    • This episode has no "Camera Commentary".

    • Malcolm: These girls are from Amsterdam, they don't even have a word for virginity there.

This is untrue, the Dutch word for virgin is maagd.

  • QUOTES (4)

    • Dewey: You promised!
Hal: Dewey, if I kept half the promises I make, this family would plunge into chaos.

    • Reese: (to Malcolm) I'll take the easy-looking one on the left.
"Easy-looking Dutch Girl": (to Reese) We all speak English!
      Reese: I know.

    • Dutch Girl #1: We know your story's a load of crap, but we think you're cute. We'll stay.
Dutch Girl #2: But if we are not drunk in 20 minutes, we're leaving.

    • Reese: What's going on?
      Hal: Kobe.
      Reese: What?
      Hal: I have Kobe beef.
      Reese: No way.
      Hal: Yes!
Reese: That's like $60 an ounce.
Hal: I know. I won it in a Minesweeper tournament at work. Years of practicing eight hours a day has finally paid off.
Reese: Wow, I've never even seen Kobe beef. It's like meeting the Pope, but you get to eat him!
Hal: Exactly. But this is treated much better than any pope was or ever will be. It lives on beer and ice cream. And right up until the moment of slaughter, its rump and thighs are massaged by geishas.
Reese: It should be eating us!

  • NOTES (3)

    • Cold Open: Malcolm attaches a rope to Reese foot then which as been strung all over the house and Dewey has attached it to a neighbors vehicle, which drives off.

    • Half what the girls say in Dutch is not even proper Dutch, I'm Dutch myself and I can't make out half what they are saying, looks like it was poorly translated.

This is what i could translate though when they were talking after Malcolm was pleading them to stay.

Girl 1: Does he think we are stupid?
Girl 2: He thinks he's cute.

    • Francis (Christopher Kennedy Masterson) makes his first appearance in season 7, although he has been credited all season.
