  • Bottom of the barrel, even for this family. Hal and Lois take advantage of a local church to get free day care for Jamie.

    4.0
When Lois must return to work and no one else will babysit Jamie because of his older brothers' reputations, she and Hal force the whole family to join a church that provides free day care. Hal botches the relatively short story of Daniel in the Lions' Den because he can't keep his attention long enough to finish it. Reese and Dewey begin developing opinions about God. The brethren finish the nursery that was started before the baby was born

Then Lois discovers that, omigosh, she has to give something in return by babysitting another person's kid.

All in all, this family is rarely shown at their best and this episode does nothing to change that.moreless
  • I liked it!

    9.0
The family pretends to be Christians to join a church with daycare. Reese and Dewey actually learn something from church, but both take it misinterpretedly. Malcolm must babysit Jamie. Hal uses the church by letting them finish the broken wall. Lois must take care of a boy for a day. Francis becomes obsessed with aliens and UFOs.

This was a pretty good episode! I didn't like how they sort of mocked Christianity though. It was a funny episode though, with Reese flying and stuff like that. They did a good job at spoofing "Amazing Grace." This episode gets a 9.0 out of 10 from me!moreless
  • The family discovers a cheap way to do day care. Only problem is that they have to join a church and pretend to be Christians which they are obviously not.

    4.4
Never watched the show until recently when I saw the synopsis of episode 85 and was intrigued. The Wilkersons have just had a baby and need to find a cheap day care. The local church offers a co-op day care for church members so off they go with the little one in tow. Only problem is they don't go to church and so they have to lie and pretend they are religious in order to get their bambino in the door. By the end of it I was confused. Were the writers mocking those who go to church or those who don't? A credible case could be made for either. Everyone in the show acted like an idiot, those in the family as well as those in the church. At one point one of the kids ask why they put a big letter "t" on the wall? On another occasion a group of Christians are singing an anti-drug song with lyrics that embraced snorting something that smelled like God's love.

And in the whole show, no one has less screen time than Malcolm himself. I thought he was the star of the showmoreless
  • Malcolm in the Middle could do much better than this!

    3.8
This episode is almost pointless, and it's one of the worst episodes in the entire series. The family just goes to the church for people to take care of the new baby, Jamie. In the program, Lois had to take care of another child while the other eprson take care of Jamie, and Hal had to teach the children there about the Christian religion. Then Reese started to have happy thoughts, but he was still ridiculously stupid. This episode was not really worth it to watch.

Overall, Season 4 was my favorite season in Malcolm in the Middle, but this episode, along with the Clip Show, nailed the perfect season record for Season 4.moreless
  • Funny...somehow...

    8.8
The family goes out to the church so they can be able to babysit Jamie, but later it turns out worse of what they expected, Lois must take care of another children in exchange, Hal must pretend he is a god teacher, and as they think that they really much about every thing, they begin to help him to construct the wall that he broke down, while Reese and Dewey find out that their lives is much better now that they know everything about God and everything.moreless

    • Dewey: I don't like this church. Ever since we come here, all I do is think about stuff. What kind of a God makes children think when they're not in school?

    • Dewey: Like Pastor Roy said, how God is so much bigger and wiser than us, and trying to see what He's thinking would be like an ant trying to see what I'm thinking.
Teacher: Yes, exactly. But we can trust in His wisdom, and have faith that He is watching over us.
Dewey: Like me with the anthill in my backyard. I spent days watching the ants, trying to figure out which ones were good, and which ones were bad, but they all just looked like ants, so I started smiting all of them.
      Teacher: Well that's not --
Dewey: I was smiting them with the garden hose, and with lighter fluid, and with the lawnmower, and to be perfectly honest, I think I went a little crazy with the shovel. Those ants could have been praying to me all day, I wouldn't have heard them.
      ponders
Dewey: There was nothing they could do about it.
      Teacher: But, I don't think --
Dewey: Really, it's the same with us. There's nothing we can do about anything either, so why worry about it? Hey, this is making me feel better.
Teacher: Well, that's good, but --
Dewey: I guess all we can do is live our lives with as much kindness and decency as possible, and try not to dwell on God standing over us with a giant shovel. Bye!

    • Dewey: Dad, what is that T symbol? (points at cross)
Hal: Ah, we'll discuss that later at home son.

    • Reese: (singing while floating in the sky) Amazing race, how sweet the sound that saved a wretch for me, I once was in the lost and found, but now I've found my key.

    • Reese: I'm gonna float up above the clouds and experience the joy that only birds can know.
Dewey: You're gonna fry yourself on high voltage wire?
Reese: I'm not afraid, I have faith in my vision.

    • Hal: You really don't remember, do you?
      Lois: What?
Hal: Once, you told me to leave Francis at the county fair so he could be raised by cows.
