  • This was funny!

Hal is stressing over what to get Lois for their 20th anniversary. He is sleepwalking and goes to Reese to help. Reese can make him do anthing he wants. Malcolm wants to play the guitar, but he isn't good at it. Two Buseys are running for president after a mean kid, Kyle, pulls a joke on them. Dewey nominates Kyle for president too. Lois solves the Hal problem.

This was a great episode! That would be cool to make someone do whatever you want. The guitar was cool! I want it! This episode gets a 10 out of 10 from me!moreless
  • Hal is sleepwalking nightly because he is so worried about what to get Lois for their anniversary.Reese turns Hal into a slave while he is sleepwalking. Malcolm tries to play music.Dewey gets revenge on a bully for playing a mean trick on 2 of the Buseys.moreless

The story line with Reese enslaving Hal, and making him do things like make out with a stuffed animal was hilarious. So was the story line with Malcolm trying to write and play a song on the guitar and failing miserably, making a variation of the Meow Mix song. And the part at the end where Reese tells Lois what is going on with Hal and then Lois makes Hal her slave, especially that she convinces him his favorite activity is changing Jamie's diapers, was brilliant. However, the main reason I liked this episode so much was that my favorite character, Dewey, was the star. His varied actions - his nurturing, almost paternal, treatment of the emotionally disturbed kids, his clever methods of getting revenge on the bullies for playing a humiliating trick on the emotionally disturbed kids, his great musical talent, his clever recognition that Malcolm's song was to the tune of the Meow Mix song and humiliating Malcolm for it, his righteous indignation when some of the emotionally disturbed kids are starting to act like the bullies, his very mature, however cynical, nature of politics ect. show many layers of his personality.moreless
  • Great!

This episode is really cool. Hal begins to sleepwalk and keep taking Reese out of bed in order to help him find the perfect gifts for Lois's anniversary, and Reese keeps doing this for his advantage until he discovers that Hal wants his help because he is his best friend. Meanwhile, Malcolm tries to learn guitar but Lois tells that Malcolm is just like him, and that he will not be able to learn anything. It was really cool, one of the best of Season 6!moreless
  • Frankie Muniz rocked!

Frankie Muniz is better known for playing the drums. But this episode had him take up playing the electric guitar. Malcolm tried to prove to his mom that he's musical as well.

The song was heart warming, but silly. Then Dewey starts singing the "Meow Mix" jingle, and the entire family sings the jingle to humiliate Malcolm!

Frankie has a nice singing voice though, he's definitely the cat's meow!

Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

  • TRIVIA (9)

    • If this was real, there is no way the teacher would have let Hanson go on swearing for that long.

    • We learn Hanson's first name is David.

    • Hal walks off, leaving the music box on the table. This results in Reese having Jamie destroy it. Since the music box was supposed to be a surprise, it is unlikely that Hal would have left it sitting out.

    • When Malcolm and Lois are arguing, she says that Flamenco dancing would be a disaster. However, later in the series, Malcolm proves to be incredible at all sorts of dancing.

    • Most schools require an in person request to run for a student body position, specifically to prevent other students from entering them into the running as a joke.

    • Chad's sign says: Seizures may be a trap.

    • Lois finally admits that Dewey is very talented musically, after both her and Hal seem to step over the issue in earlier episodes.

    • Back in the episode, "Hal Quits," a tester told Malcolm that he could do anything that he wanted, but in this episode, we see that Malcolm is not good at music.

    • Malcolm walks in and the family is watching TV, the camera cuts to Malcolm reaching for the remote and shows there is nothing on the TV except a reflection of his arm, yet there is still sound.

  • QUOTES (2)

    • Malcolm: It's a good thing you're not John Lennon's mother.
Lois: If I was John Lennon's mother, he'd still be alive.

    • Malcolm: (singing) No one knows just what I've been through. I can't stop the pain inside me. Now I'm staring out my window. Children play, they seem so happy. Why are we here going nowhere? Why does my life feel so empty?
Dewey: (singing) Meow meow meow meow, meow meow meow meow. Meow meow meow meow meow meow meow meow!
      Malcolm: What are you doing?
Dewey: That's the "Meow Mix" song.
