Hal reveals that he once left Dewey in Mexico. Possibly the first time Hal tried to reach the ranch and ended up in Mexico instead, which Francis mentioned in an earlier episode.
Craig: Let the records show that I advocated a policy of cowardice and appeasement.
(the employees of Lucky Aide are gathering to discuss establishing a union) Craig: I appreciate all the anger that's in this room and God knows I'm not one to shy away from a fight. But I suggest that instead of starting a union, we form a special committee to, maybe, paint Mr. Cochran's house so he'll wanna be nice to us.
Hal: What's the matter with you boys? Don't you realize you could get killed? Reese: Dad, I can't die. Hal: What? Reese: I'm seventeen. Hal: And so you can't die? Reese: I just don't see it happening. Hal: I got news for you, Reese. Seventeen-year-olds die all the time. Reese: Come on, Dad, that's just something they tell you so you'll stay off drugs.
Hal: It's a very special moment when a father watches his boys lie to their mother for him. There's only one thing that could make me prouder: if one of you could saw off my leg.
Hal: I can't feel anything below my left knee. Is my foot okay? Reese: Your foot looks fine... but I think the rest of you's facing the wrong way.
A very similar episode of King of the Hill (also a Fox show) entitled "Mutual of Omabwah" (S9E8) aired on Sunday, March 6th, 2005. In that episode, Hank forgets to pay the house insurance and freaks out when they have no coverage and tries to make sure the house doesn't get damaged. This episode may be inspired partly from the KOTH one.
Cold Open: Malcolm and Dewey are amazed that Reese cannot get a brain freeze, try as he might.
Francis (Christopher Masterson) does not appear in this episode.
