Episode Summary

Home Alone 4
Lois and Hal are spending the weekend at a family wedding, leaving Francis -- home for a visit -- in charge. When Malcolm overhears them discussing whether Francis has spent long enough at the military academy, he enlists his brothers in a scheme to get Francis home by preventing any of the usual disasters. But three of Francis's dude buddies turn up to party and trash the house, and while frantically cleaning up Malcolm gets a serious head injury that necessitates the usual trip to the emergency ward. Meanwhile, Hal and Lois discover that his family has a new nickname for her: "Lois Common Denominator." Her humiliation provokes Hal to declare his devotion to her.moreless

  • Can He Come home?

Francis is staying home with Malcolm Dewey and Reese, and Lois and Hal think he is mature and can stay home, depending on what happens with them away for the weekend. So, Francis, Malcolm, Dewey and Reese clean the house, but Malcolm gets a bad concussion and needs to be taken to the hospital. In the end everything is back to normal, and Francis goes back to Marlin academy.

An original episode with some very clever lines of dialogue. It was pretty funny and I really liked some of the parts. It was really original and it worked well for the showmoreless
  • Loved it!

Francis is home for the weekend! Lois and Hal are going to a wedding and they are leaving Francis in charge. Malcolm overhears his parents talking and think that if Francis does well, he won't have to go back. After Francis has some friends over, who wreck the house. Malcolm, Reese, and Dewey tell him what they know. They clean the place up immensely, then make it more dirty, so Lois won't suspect. In the process, Malcolm gets a head injury. Not wanting to have the bill sent to Hal and Lois, Malclom calls his teacher (who earlier said that if Malcolm needed anything, she'd be there to help) and she pays the bill.

This was a great episode! It was funny and entertaining! I like how they had to make the house a little dirty, so it would look normal! This episode gets a 10!moreless
  • Outrageously Outrageous

This episode is awesome. This is a perfect example of what Malcolm in the Middle is like. The parents go away, and Francis the bigger troublemaker is left home with the already troublemaker kids. Uh-oh. My favorite part was when Francis' crazy friends, Richie, etc. arrive, the house is normal; messy, but not too messy, then the next scene, it's a disaster, and Richie is leaving. Awesome. Now they have to clean it up. Then they mess it up again. To me, every Malcolm in the Middle episode is exciting and I don't think there is a single episode I don't like. To believe that this is the third episode, and it's already one of the best.moreless
  • Francis is home and mom and dad are away for the weekend.

I thought this episode was one of my favorites. It showed what the boy do without any parental supervision. It is a classic episode, one that every fan of malcolm in the middle

should see more than a couple of times. It is also a funny episode, when francis is in the hospital with the boys he is pinching dewey's back so he'll cry and make caroline pay for malcolm's hospital bill. I would give it 4 out of 4 stars. It shows alot of times they did thing to get sent to the hospital in flashbacks. This was an excellent episode.moreless
  • The boys stay at home, Hal and Lois go to a wedding, and we meet Richie disastrous friends!

This episode is really cool, firstly Francis must stay home and take care of the boys and in order for Francis to return home he must do a good job, but when he invites his friends it all turns into total disaster, and it even turns worse when they have to clean it all and later, Malcolm gets a concussion which brings Malcolm to ask for help to his teacher, Caroline...

Meanwhile, Hal and Lois are in a wedding and Lois feels bad from being with Hal's family, but later Hal manages to convince Lois that she is wonderful and everything...

I think that this episode is great and that is very funny, and I think that this idea was one of the best one...moreless

Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

  • TRIVIA (6)

    • When Reese and Francis are taking Malcolm out to the car, you can see the camera crews reflection on one of the windows.

    • Even though Lois states in this episode that sending Francis to military school was their best decision ever, Lois eventually admits otherwise to Francis in the Season 6 episode, "Ida Loses a Leg."

    • We find out that the final deed that got Francis sent to military school was for getting his nose pierced

    • In this episode, the nurse (real actress: Aloma Wright) attending Malcolm's injury over the counter, is the same nurse that cast in Scrubs as "Nurse Laverne Roberts". In both shows, she has the same accent and attitude.

    • The cold opener of this episode is where the family is eating dinner and Reese was about to hit Lois with a spoonful of mashed potatoes. But on the syndication rerun, the cold opener from "Krelboyne Picnic" (the one where the boys are starting the commotion and Lois and Hal are in bed) is used on this episode instead.

    • While Malcolm, Reese, Dewey, and Francis are deliberately making their house messy, you can see right above their ceiling there's a bright light shining down and a black background. It shows that they film their interior of their house on a set.

  • QUOTES (15)

    • (camera shows Francis drinking from a gallon bottle of milk)
Lois: (on phone, to Francis) What are you doing?! Get a glass!

    • Lois: Don't even think about it.
      Malcolm: Think about what?
      Francis: She's bluffing.

    • Lois: Did you know that your family has given me a nickname?
Hal: That's nice. What is it?
      Lois: Lois... Common... Denominator.

    • Nurse (to guys): Oh, boy. You kids again? And a head injury? You boys like to keep it interesting, do you?
Malcolm (to the camera): We have sort of our history in here.
(scene cuts to Reese about to hammer a nail to an aerosol can, then Francis balancing a knife on his finger and throwing it into the air, Malcolm nodding off while holding a pair of scissors with the sharp points to his head while Reese approaches behind him about to pop a balloon, then we see Malcolm rotating tires from a bike when Dewey opens his mouth and tries to bite the rotating tire)

    • Francis: Malcolm you could have a concussion.
Malcolm: (to the camera) Concussion? I think he's making too much of this. (to Francis) Francis, there is no way that I'm...
(Reese hands him a mirror and Malcolm sees the injury)
      Malcolm: ... get the car!

    • Francis: Oh, great, a one-way street! How does that work if I'm going backwards?

    • Richie: (on the phone with Francis) Dude, you're not going to believe this. I moved out. I'm living in the basement. Total freedom dude!
      Justin: You da man, Francis!
Richie: (mother walks in with laundry) Mom, you're supposed to knock!

    • Francis: Did you guys see Circus break that cinder block with his head? That's a good lesson for you guys. It didn't break the first six times, but did he quit trying? No, sir.

    • Malcolm: Mom: 62,437, kids: 0.

    • Malcolm: The only thing worse than no TV, is golf on TV.

    • Francis: Look, guys, I appreciate your sentiment. But they're not going to decide my whole future based on how I behave over one weekend without even telling me about it. It's too arbitrary. It's unreasonable.
      Malcolm: It's Mom.
      Francis: Okay, let's clean up.

    • Lois: I can't believe we're going to this wedding. What a waste of time.
Hal: Oh, come on, I promise it'll be fun.
      Lois: Hal, I'm not Dewey.

    • Hal: Honey, we're late. We better hit the road.
Lois: Fine. I'll shave my legs in the car.

    • Lois: Finally, I can go a whole weekend without yelling at someone... oh for crying out loud, either speed up or get off the road jackass!
      Hal: Absolutely deserved it.

    • Dewey: How do we be good?
