Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

  • TRIVIA (4)

    • In the opener, Hal once again eats a piece of rotten fruit. The first time was earlier in the series when he ate what he thought was a can of olives but instead turned out to be rotten peaches.

    • Dewey's musical desires are seen for the first time since season 4 episode "Humilithon."

    • It becomes obvious starting with this episode that Reese has no interest in college.

    • Goof: When Malcolm tries to kick down the dorm director's door, he gets his foot stuck by the doorknob. When campus security takes down the door with him still stuck, it seems like it's reversed and upside down, otherwise the hinges would be to Malcolm's right and the door number would be right in front of him.

  • QUOTES (5)

    • Reese: Malcolm, I live in a world of what the hells.

    • Lois: Why are you in such a hurry to get rid of me?
Malcolm: Because I'm supposed to be doing this stuff on my own.
Lois: I'm just here to make sure you do it on your own the right way.

    • Reese: Wait a second! You guys are talking about college for Malcolm and not me? I'm a year older than he is. Why aren't you taking me to look at colleges?
      Hal: Well...son...
Reese: (Laughs) I'm just screwing with you! Relax!

    • Francis: Otto, it's me. I got the DVDs.
Otto: Oh, thank goodness, there is a small problem. You see, I went to the store and bought several gallons of hard lemonade.
Francis: Hard lemonade... Otto, that has alcohol in it!
Otto: I said there was a problem!

    • Doctor: I don't tell anyone about this, you don't tell anyone about those keys I left in your gall bladder.
      Otto: Deal.

  • NOTES (2)

    • Cold Open: Lois wants the family to eat healthy, so she sticks a fruit in the fridge. The boys, one by one, opens the fridge and pulls out junk food, while the fruit rots. Hal opens the fridge and takes out the rotten fruit, thinking it's a brownie.

    • The music heard during the scene where the drunken children at the Grotto get rowdy, is TMBG's "Wake Up Call."
