Malcolm wants to learn to skate to play hockey with friends, but Hal needs to teach him first, because Hal was an amazing rollerskater back in the day. But Malcolm cannot handle how his father teaches him because of how strict he is, and because of how strange his techniques are. In the end though Hal teaches Malcolm.

Reese makes Lois so mad that she throws her back out for yelling so loudly.

Francis fakes back troubles so he does not go on a retreat at the academy.

A pretty fun and funny episode. One of the better ones but there were a few parts I didn't quite likemoreless

  • It's not as great as people say it is.

This episode is getting good reviews, it's one of the highest rated episodes, but, to me, it wasn't all that great.

Don't get me wrong, it had some pretty good laughs, like Malcolm saying a curse word when the bus and the birds went by, but you can only hear him say, "-You!" That was pretty good.

And the dancing, that was pretty funny at the end, when Malcolm started winning. But, those are the only two jokes I really laughed at. Really, what do people think thats so great about this episode? I liked it, but it's not the best.

For me, only an 8 out of 10.moreless

Malcolm is afraid to ask Hal for skating lessons because of what Reese and Francis have been through. He does ask though, but has an attitude and cusses at Hal. Hal makes him call him bad names to learn his lesson. Malcolm goes through his training and becomes a good skater. Lois has a back problem. Francis convinces everyone that he hurt his back, so he could stay at the school instead of going to the survival campout.

This was a good episode! Hal's dancing was pretty funny! I'd hate to be Francis in the end. This episode gets a 9.0 out of 10 from me!moreless

this is by absoloutely no doubt my favourite episode of malcolm in the middle ever. it starts off with malcolm wanting to leqarn how to skate, so he asks his dad for lessons, lois is bed ridden thanks to reese making her scream so hard. we find out that hal was an old professional disco skater so he teaches malcolm all of his old moves. lois wont take any pain killers so reese and hal tries to hide the pills. francis fakes injury to get out of a wilderness week at millitary school. in the end malcolm learns how to skate and then beats everyone using his newly aquired skating skills from his dad after having a fight with him.moreless

  • Malcolm must face the horror of Hal's skating training.

    9.6
    "Superb"
It's easy to understand why this is one of the most popular season one episodes of Malcolm in the Middle because it has such classic scenes as:

    > Reese's horror at the mention of Hal's training
    > Hal's roller dancing skills and Malcolm's mortified expression
    > The list of curse words punishment
    > Malcolm skating without skates

This episode develops Hal's character quite well and gives him some background and talents and also shows Malcom's unique relationshi with his father, using his dance moves to score in hockey. Hal's skating outfit is also hilarious and really makes this one of the best episodes of season one.moreless
