Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

  • TRIVIA (3)

    • It really DOES NOT take two to Watusi. The Watusi was a solo dance that enjoyed brief popularity during the early 1960s. It was almost as popular as the Twist.
Its name came from the Batutsi tribe of Rwanda.

    • Right after Luann goes into the storage closet, Mama comes in the door, meaning Mama would have been at that window when she went it. So why didn't Mama see her quickly sneak in?

  • QUOTES (19)

    • Luann: Well, I guess both of us learned something about ourselves tonight.
Bubba: Yeah. I was kinda hopin' to learn something new.

    • *Mama is telling Bubba that she might have misjudged him and Luann*
Mama: You know something, I'm gonna give her a call in the morning, see if she'd like to go with me to church.
      Bubba: That'd be nice.

    • Naomi: Come along darling, we'll play our own game. Tonight, I'm gonna let you win.
Mama: Well, I can't imagine that it's gonna be more fun than Yahtze! Shoot, it's hell being a party animal with a dull family like mine.

    • Mama: Now, let us discuss this calmly and reasonably like adults. You are not going!

    • Iola: Well, I'm sure she's got a million projects to work on, if she's anything like me.
Naomi: She is NOTHING like you!

    • Luann: Hey Bubba. What's shakin'?
Mama: As if you didn't know.

    • Vint: Mama, just because Luann is a little flashy doesn't mean she's a bad person.
Mama: A little flashy?! You could stick her in a harbor and ships would be safe for miles!

    • Vint: It's not like a real date. It's not like the drive-in or the boat show.
Mama: I don't care if it's an Amish barn raising! I do not want Bubba going with Luann!

    • Iola: Well, I know this is none of my business...
Mama: I'm glad you recognized that on your own Iola. It saves me from having to tell ya to butt out.

    • Naomi: And just what is the matter with Luann?!
Mama: You got a couple hours?!

    • Vint: Me and Naomi will be along to chaperone.
Mama: That is like putting the sharks in charge of the scuba lessons.

    • Naomi: Mrs. Harper, I will not hear another word against Luann Fayette. She is my best friend!
Vint: Yeah. She's just a good-natured, fun-lovin' girl, like Naomi.
      Mama: I rest my case.

    • Mama: Bubba does not want to spend his Saturday night with some bimbo twice his age.
Bubba: Now wait a minute Grandma, let's think about this.

    • *Vint and Naomi are trying to think of a new date for Luann*
      Vint: What about Wiley Jenkins?
Iola: Oh, I heard he's back together with his wife.
Mama: That never stopped him before.

    • Mama: A trailer park is about to go up in flames and all you can think about is Luann's lovelife?

    • Mama: Bubba, I think it's time to went upstairs and took a hot shower.
      Bubba: Yes ma'am.
Mama *to Luann* : And missy, I think it's time you went home and took a cold one.

    • Iola: Well, ever since her divorce, her and Naomi have become bosum buddies.
Mama: Yeah, well Naomi's the buddy part.

    • Luann: You know, till my divorce, I never realized how much I depended on a man.
Naomi: I know. They certainly come in handy sometimes, don't they?

    • *Vint is fixing Luann's toaster*
Luann: How's my little toaster doing, Vint?
Vint: Oh, pretty good. Pretty good. Here, see that little thing right over here?
      Luann: Uh-huh.
Vint: That's the part I replaced. And right over there is where I rewired the handle. And ya see that all the way down at the bottom?
      Luann: Yeah.
Vint: That's my screw driver. Once I find a way to get that out, this thing will work like a dream.
