Notice when Vint answers the phone to Eda Mearl Pfefferman and covers his mouth in the shaving cream, you can see Ken Berry mutter the words "Ah sh--!", though drowned out by the audience's laughter.
In this episode, Bubba, Vint, and Naomi fight over the shower upstairs. But in More Power To You, Naomi and Vint say they are using the shower in the basement. Was this shower forgotten in all the excitement?
Cousin Cora shouldn't be a bum. She got Uncle Oscar's boat business in episode #75. What happened with that. She never mentioned it!
After the power goes out, Mama tells Bubba to go up to the attic to get his grandfather's typewriter to finish his report. What happened to the typewriter cousin Lydia gave him in Season 3?
Commentary/Observation: When the power goes on the morning after it was turned on, all the electircal appliances turn on, including the blender. Did Mama leave these plugged in the whole time?
Vint and Naomi head off to the basement to shower for Naomi's food circus awards ceremony later on. Which obviously means that Mama's house has not two but three bathrooms. Since when did the basement have a shower or for that matter a bathroom at all? Because several times in previous episodes Naomi and the rest of the family are seen going upstairs to the bathroom for a shower.
When Mama gives Iola the numbers, she gives them in order of birthday. But when they are named on TV, they aren't in the order Mama gave. When you win, they numbers must all be in order, unless Iola switched them all around.
Mama says Vint was born on March 10th, however in episode #53 he says he was born on April 23rd.
Just before the 2nd commercial break, Vicki Lawrence gets a little too caught up in dialing the number for Rent A Gent and knocks some prop off its shelf by shaking the wall too much. It appears to be some kind of salt/pepper shaker or other condiment dispenser.
This could be argued as whether it's a goof or not, but, it's surely a nitpick. :) This is episode #96, aired on 23-Dec-1988. Now, while this obviously doesn't equate with the actual date within the story itself, there's an interesting goof. Mama believes that the Mayor is there to award her the Golden Troll award, even though he's there to say the city block is scheduled to be demolished. BUT the later episode #103, airing on 24-Feb-1989, has the Golden Troll JUDGING as taking place within THAT episode instead. Of course, that may have been all part of Thelma's plan in that episode, i.e. the Golden Troll Award judging wasn't even taking place then. But, if it was, that means the Golden Troll Award takes place at least twice a year, in February AND December?
If you watch carefully when Vint and Bubba are setting up the poker table, they both go into the kitchen to get chairs while the women get ready to go out. When they come back, the table is already completely set-up.
Goof: Mrs. Kambeck has a green sheet printout of the money that was "deducted" from the teller machine when it went berserk... Yet, the ATM DOESN'T have a camera, like they all do, that would have proven if Mr. Guthrie hadn't, in fact, deducted said money?
While this is no doubt one of the best episodes of the entire series, there is a small issue of artificiality that keeps this episode from getting a perfect score of 10. For example, when Naomi says in the unedited version of Bubba's film, "I'd rub his (the dog's) belly and he would lick my face." she says it in a loving way and finished the quote with a higher pitch in her voice. However when she says the same thing in the edited version with the camera shorting out, Naomi has a more sensuous and abrupt tone. It is clear that this version is actually a second recording made by the actors and not the original version that just happened to have the camera shorting out.
Actually, it is mentioned about Naomi being assistant manager. For example, in "A Taxing Situation" she says that as assistant manager, she fills out forms a lot. And in "More Power To You," she says that she is up for the Assistant Manager of the Year award.
When Archie Woods tells Naomi to sit down, he quickly checks out Naomi's butt before she takes her seat.
Naomi is said to have become the new Assistant Manager at Food Circus in this episode. Problem is it's never mentioned again in the series. In fact she's referred to in several later episodes as a checker and not the Assistant Manager. So apparently the goofy blond got demoted soon after the new Manager took over.
Mama says that she's only got three minutes to talk. Iola had four charts and graphs on stage. How did she display all that in the short time of 180 seconds? Alberta could have given her more time, but Mama was limited.
When Mr. Hanson first started teaching and Mama wanted to impress him, she said that one of the things she could lose was her B average. But it this episode she has gotten straight A's. Did Mama somehow do extra work to get that all up, or does dating your teacher pay off?
If Mama was valdictorian, nobody in Bubba's class was able to maintain a straight A average? It seems a bit unlikely that not one student could keep their grades so high.
The scene with Thelma and the hammock is very reminiscent of one in an episode of Three's Company called A Camping We Will Go. Dave Powers directed that and this Mama's Family episode.
