Manhattan Love Story Series Premiere Review: A Man and a Woman's Unfiltered Thoughts on ABC's New Rom-Com

Manhattan Love Story S01E01: "Pilot"

The best thing about Manhattan Love Story is that it says “nuts” right on the wrapper. Not only are the title and the premise on and the same, but the pilot opened with a joke that sort of doubled as a thesis statement: Peter (Jake McDorman) walked down an NYC street musing (in voiceover) about women he’d have sex with and zeroing in on their boobs. Then the camera cut to Dana (Analeigh Tipton), who was also walking down an NYC street and ogling passersby, but she was just interested in their purses (her reaction to an arty, fashionable man carrying a purse: “ewww”). If the old-school sexism revealed by the “we’re hearing their unfiltered thoughts!” conceit doesn’t send you scrambling for your remote, the rest of this glossy, charmingly-acted show and its “aspirational normalcy” vibe probably won’t bother you too ...
