It seems about midway thru the MwC run, one of the producers decided that the Bundys needed a third child.

They tried to write Katey Sagal's pregnancy into the series in Season 6, but the baby's stillbirth killed that. Then, they added a child in Season 7, Seven. Unofrtunately, they fell into the "new character" syndrome, and got rid of him (eventually).

Two years later, when Ron Leavitt co-created Unhappily Ever After, they made a family with a third child, often the ignored one.

    What do you think?

I hate when shows introduce a new stupid character. Like what happened on brady bunch and other shows. Its a jump the shark moment.

It's hilarious on Family Matters how Judy was ignored and eventually disappeared. Then years later, they adopt a 3rd child to replace the 1 they never had (Shhh! You're not supposed to remember Judy! )

And as seen in Step-by-Step and Family Ties, once the baby is added, there's the Suddenly-becomes-4-years-Old syndrome.

Yea she did a porn movie. In an interview she said that they kicked her off the show after her father(who acted as her manager) tried to demand more money.Parents should never act as their kids managers. But I guess they can't resist the dollar signs.

There was an episode of "Happy Days" in which Fonzie water ski's over a shark. Since the show started going "downhill" after this episode, the term "Jump the Shark" has come to mean the point at which a sit-com loses its direction and starts going bad.  I believe there is a web site (jumptheshark.com) that has more information about this.

Maybe they wanted to add a child to the show in the later years to make up for the fact that Kelly and Bud were adult then?

I don't actually remember Seven at all (not sure I ever saw any episodes with him in), what was he like?

I've seen most of the Seven episodes. Only two of them has it where he's really trying to "dominate" the show, and for that, it's understandable that he didn't come off well with the fans.

But there were a few episodes that in spite of his presence turned our great.

Unhappily Ever After felt like an unofficial spinoff of Married with Children with the exception they were financially and socially better off than the Bundys but still dysfunctional.  I guess wih this series they were able to correct the 'wrongs' of MWC.  Seven did nothing for the show and I guess he would have been a permanent move in if he fared well with the audience.  People didn't watch MWC to see kids, it was strictly an adult show with adult storylines.  I hate when shows incorporate someone's real life pregnancy into the show, there are outfits that people can wear that can hide pregnancies now.

After Seven had "disappeared" from the show his picture turns up on a milk carton at the Bundy house. Always though that was a great gag!

It's funny how you complain about Seven, but not about Lucky. Okay, I Know it's Buck Reincarnated, but still it's a new caracter

They brought Lucky in because Buck needed to retire though, so we couldn't mind really (bear in mind that dogs generally live about 14 years or so and the show ran for 11)

By the way, does anyone know which episode the milk carton with Seven on is in please? I guess it's in season 8?

The milk carton was in the episode where Al carpooled with the fat women. Season eight, episode 22 "Ride Scare".
Kelly "forgot" about Buck and Seven in "Kelly Knows Something"
